so what now?

ladies, i need your opinion/knowledge. so, i bought my dress today at a sample sale! it was practically half price after all the discounts. i don''t have any pictures of myself in them but i will post some after i have a fitting done. here are some things i need to get done since it was purchased at the sample sale : dry clean it (it has a noticable stain on the back) and have it fitted since it is too big.

my question is: what comes first? the dry cleaning or the fitting? i''m concerned if i get it dry cleaned before fitted, it will get dirty in the fitting process.
however, if i get it fitted first and then dry clean, i''m afraid the stain will further ''set in''. what should I do???

i plan on losing weight before getting the fitting done. so...I don''t want to get it fitted yet, but again, i''m concerned about that one little stain.
i''m pretty sure it''s a makeup stain, but still...it''s kind of noticeable. here is a picture of my dress!

If the cost is not significant, then dry clean it now before the fitting, and perhaps one more time before your wedding day!

just be really careful during your first fitting so you don't dirty it

This is your wedding gown...splurge on two dry cleanings...one before to remove the stain, and again before the wedding if needed. Although, for the record...most brides get altered and rarely dryclean afterwards.

I''d take it to the best dry cleaner that does wedding gowns, see what he / she has to say. I am thinking I''d want the stain out before it sets in,,, But am no expert. If it doesn''t cost too much, remove the stain and then get it altered. Then have it pressed again...

I would also get it cleaned first. I'd be nervous that the stain wouldn't come out, and it would be good to find that out before you spend a lot of money getting it altered. I'm sure it will all work out though... cleaners can work miracles. I bought a sample too, and I love it!! Such a good way to save some money and still have a beautiful dress.

first of all... beautiful dress..

i also bought a sample.. both the salon and the seamstress told me to dry clean it BEFORE alterations.

I just got mine back from the cleansers and am starting my fittings soon... good luck.

(ask your salon for a recommended cleansers, and look online for reviews.... and it is pretty pricey..)

Take it in to the dry cleaners. They should be able to spot clean it. Get the stain out with spot cleaning, get it fitted, and then dry clean it.

It will be 275 to clean each time. I''m a little concerned (even though this IS my wedding dress) that I''m tacking on an extra 600 bucks to the cost. I could buy the Veil/accessories with that money. I think I''m just going to clean it first, then, altered, and then see what state it is in before deciding whether I should clean it again.

also, how surprising to see that other ladies got their dresses at a sample sale too! honestly, i was exclusively looking at pre-owned and discounted dresses since i really wanted to get a good deal. (seriously, how bad could a dress worn once be?)
I guess persistance pays off since i got the dress i wanted at a great price!

Ok, if it''s just one spot, we use this cleaner at the store I work at... It''s awesome. I go in on Thursday, so I will report back what it''s called.. With girls trying on dresses they constantly get makeup stains and other weird things.. We swear by it! I know it''s in an aerosol can, but if you''re interest I can check the name. It''s a heck of a lot cheaper than $275.

Amazing dress!

I also bought a sample gown. When I took it for the fitting, she volunteered to spot dry clean it as part of the cost of alterations. You might want to take it for alterations first, just in case you luck into something like this. The stain will not go away or get worse because you get it altered (I don''t think will get any worse or set in). You just want to make sure it will be finished in time for a dry clean in case it still needs it.

Update: you will not believe it but I got the stain out with a Tide stain-out pen.
It''s one of those textures that can be handwashed and i got it out!! No water marks either

$275 for a dry-clean is highway robbery. I bought my dress at a sale as well (not sample sale mind you) and there was a makeup stain as well but inside the gown!

Had it been outside, i would have been panicking and posted this thread too!

I think iota would like to know the designer of your dress and maybe also the name of it. (Like, make & model of a car, for a dress it''d be the designer and style name/number of the gown.

oh, it''s ulla maija. (anne maier?) the dress is dutchess satin but portion of the fabric where the stain was is flowy. i don''t know the name of the fabric. (didn''t know about the dress either but i looked it up.
