I had been thinking of asking/posting this before, and the snoopers thread prompted me to go ahead. Where do you hide the goodies? especially from the "older kids".

When mine were rather little, I put them in a cedar chest down the basement, since they thought it was full of bankets and clothes, and never thought to look. Big ones went to someone elses house, or in the trunk of the car.

Now that my kids are older, the presents are smaller, and their snooping is more sophisticated.

So, I put everything I can in the suitcases in the basement, and lock them up and hide the key. So far, they''ve not a clue.

Hmmm, I just realized, this thread may help the snoopers. Better not peek people, you know who you are!

Hey, that's pretty clever, Ellen! I hide mine in the trunk of my car, inside a box marked "Goodwill."

Funny thing is that 9yo DD 'fessed up the other day that she and 13yo DD went through both mine and my husband's Ebay account to see what purchases we have made in the last month (no purchases made on Ebay, thankfully - well, at least not for them anyway

! Sneaky little devils...

Most of mine are still at the store.

Um, don't you think now would be a good time to purchase them??

the Goodwill box reminded me of a time that my sister and I found a presents by accident because we couldn't imagine them to be labeled something they were. I would seal that Goodwill box if it isn't already.

We don't have kids but if we did; I think we would keep the presents locked in the shed. hehee Ellen, I think your hiding place is very smart, kudos. hehee
Are you feeling better?

My kids don''t dare peek. I told them I would give all the gifts to charity if they looked at them! We set traps to see if they have been messed with and up till now they haven''t!!

They are getting money this year and a few little stocking fillers so its been easier.

Yep, I've been known to do this. Also, go through the pile of receipts, any joint accounts, "accidentally" open up statements from DH's individual accounts, and purposely ask him for the receipts from his wallet when he's distracted and I *knew* that he'd give me ALL the receipts from his wallet. I had no shame, none. Not that I have any shame now but I realised how many people I hurt and lives I'd be ruining to I quit two years ago. I've been so good these past two years
16.gif

He actually asked me when he got from work today if I'd be snooping because he noticed that I had cleaned the house and that's how I usually hide my badness. I can honestly say I was good!

I hide presents in the mail. I purposely order from amazon (where most of his gifts seem to come from) at the last minute. Then there's no snooping to be had. Other than that, with the gift wrap. He's a horrible present wrapper and hates to wrap, I'm good at it (from my days of re-wrapping snooped through presents, thankyouverymuch) and have loads of papers and ribbons. I just shove his gift in there.

We don't have children so there's no one else to hide gifts from, just DH.

I have a big amazon box in the top of our closet. It''s been there since we moved in so the kids just assume it is unpacked house stuff. It''s great for hiding small things. The big things this year are very big so the surfboard from Santa for the boys is at the neighbor''s house and the doll house for DD is with grandma and grandpa. They will bring it over tomorrow night.

Lol!! I wish I could set mouse traps! That would stop them! We usually cover the presents with a cloth with pattern on it, so if the pattern isn''t the right way round we know. Or we put a piece of thread over the top and if its moved they have been in there.....

lol i saw this and thought hide the presents? why would you hide the presents. then i realized that it''s for kids. so we don''t have any kids...so we don''t hide presents....we wrap them and put them under the tree almost immediately when we get them. but i think if we did try to hide them, i''d hide them in plain sight. aka i''d put our names on the tags and then some sort of differentiating mark on it to let me know who it was for but all the kids would see was from me to greg or something like that.
11.gif

1) upper shelf in our closet for the kids
2) a) basement. tucked out of the way, for the wife,
b) drawer my side of the bed in our room, for Jewellery. But...this was a while ago, and my wife saw it, and just let it sit there until I gave it to her...and when she commented. I guess that''s not such a good place. It sat there for months...and I''m really not sure what she must have been thinking?

I hide presents in my closet and if they are too big, in the basement under some storage boxes. Luckily my son is not a snoop (like his mother)
3.gif
so I don''t have to be too diligent with the hiding.

In the basement and in my Walk in closet. I try to wrap things as soon as I buy them. There are some really nice stocking pressies that are hidden under clothes in a laundry basket, with a hang up bag on top. They never think to look there.

I learned this from my mom....the crawlspace off the basement. It''s creepy and dark, and no one wants to go near it, let alone IN it. (however, it''s really not creepy, it''s quite clean and has a gravel floor. And, it''s not dark. There''s a permanent light fixture in there that you can turn on from the full basement part.)

I love hearing all these hiding places!

Maise, too funny, but clever!
27.gif

Ira, she was probably thinking, that''s not a very good hiding place.

OK, I''m back and I''ve hidden them.

I put the gifts in the closet where the cleaning supplies are kept. There is little risk that they''ll be found! LOL!

Oooh, good one.

big kids and adults go under the tree. i just love seeing the tree filled with presents underneath and wouldn''t want to only get to enjoy for a few minutes christmas morning. the little kids have some presents under the tree, one''s my parents have sent, a few from us. the one''s from santa are hiding in my bedroom closet. they know our bedroom is off limits without one of us in there so they wouldn''t even go into to sneak around. they are getting older though and i''m guessing next year i''m might have to steal ellen''s locked suitcase idea. So far it hasn''t even dawned on them to sneak, at least that i know of
37.gif

Well, we don''t have kids, so I usually wrap things as quickly as possible and put them under the tree (I did this before we were married as well). But, if I have bought the gift a few months in advance, or if I don''t have time for wrapping right away, and the gift is the right size, I tend to hide things in purses that are not currently in use. My husband would never think to look in one of my purses sitting innocently up in the closet. (that works great for gams or CDs or movies or little stuff like that.)

When I was a kid I was a huge huge sneak. I don''t think my parents ever guessed what was going on, but I always knew exactly what I was getting. These days I like the suspense and surprise so I demand that all gifts be hidden away. Then I spend several days driving BF insane asking "what did you get me?" "where is it hidden?", etc. I ask three or four questions, then he tells me that if I ask one more question he is just going to tell me. I shut up for fifteen minutes or so before asking again.
31.gif

Ken, on the other hand, couldn''t care less so I just wrap his gifts and put them under the tree. He never peeks, probably doesn''t even think to. What a brat!
