Hey guys,

Putting my 1.3 OEC pendant up for sale, asking $2K. The stone is gorgeous and the pendant is exactly what I wanted... except I realized I don't really wear pendants. And if I do, I can't stick to just one. I don't want a diamond lying around unless I wear it all the time. And, I want some french cuts real bad. :cheeky:

Some of you may remember my threads about the stone in this pendant, it is CHIPPED. Like "a chunk of it is missing" chipped. Luckily, the chip does not show from the front of the stone and does not affect light performance. However, if someone is thinking of buying this stone to re-set it... please be advised, be careful, and you probably should only put it in a protective bezel setting.

Here is my thread about the chip:

Stats on the stone: 1.3ct, L-M color, undetermined clarity because of the chip, but very eye clean. Dimensions: 6.72 x 6.82 x 4.43mm.

Listing on Loupe Troop: http://loupetroop.com/listings/necklaces-and-pendants/1-dot-3ct-oec-pendant-in-silver-and-14k-yellow-gold

Cheers!

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

I have to agree: this is gorgeous!!

The tarnished look was a great idea, gemfever and those facets are ultra yummi!! :lickout:

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

lol!! I have no doubt you are a delightful person, but there should have been a comma after 'gemfever'

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

YT: Thanks! I know, my kitty is just too precious. I should have been photographing the pendant, but all I could think was "Cuteness is going to be in this picture! Yay!!!" ;))

Dianabarbara: LOL! Thanks :D

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

(even your kitty is looking at you like - "MOM! Why are you selling this - you LOVE it! Keep it mom!!" - at least that's how I interpretted the look on his face!)

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

Oh my goodness- cuteness IS all in those pictures! Super sweet- good luck on a quick sale!

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

Thanks gals.

My Bonita is really stealing the show, huh! Like she usually does anywhere she goes ::) She's still a kitten, under a year old, so super curious and playful. But she's already got all the cuteness tricks figured out, that's for sure!

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

I was wondering if you had any neck shots?
And did Daniel M comment on whether he thought the chip would endanger the stability? I.e. I'm a clutz and I"m worried if I bang it it'll crack, lol.

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

MTG, LOL! I chuckled at that one. Daniel did not comment on that. If it stays in the current setting I think it's pretty safe. Another bezel pendant setting would probably be fine too. Ring... now I'm not too sure.

Oh, actually I remembered there was one comment in our messages about the chip. Here's what Daniel said to my question of whether the chip would present a problem with bezel setting, "I don't think there will be any further damage to your stone when I set it. I have bezel set diamonds with worse chips."

Here are a couple neck shots I had on my phone.

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

Oh, I forgot to add, the kitty is cute!

ARG, so tempted. I keep trying to remind myself that I prefer rings, lol. I need to be saving up for settings!
Still, it's so pretty! I hope someone buys it soon so I can stop being tempted, heh.

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

Love your cat! It's saying, "mamma don't sell it, I waaaant it!!"

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

MTG, I hope someone buys it too

But if you really are a ring person, stay strong!

FK: She loves all my stuff! Oh how she nibbled on my earrings when she was younger, hehehehe :praise:

Here's a photo of her I posted in the Pearl section when I was looking for pearls for my wedding. She was still a tiny baby, already had expensive toys!

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

Augh, I'm tempted, but I'm a wussy, big time, because I would want to re-set it (into another bezel-set pendant, coincidentally, but with a much thinner one in platinum) and I'm super-scared of the potential for further damage from removing the stone and resetting it :( The faceting pattern is perfect, though! I probably shouldn't have even posted this, given my wussiness, but I wanted to tell you I think it's gorgeous (and your kitty, too!). I'll let you know if I "woman up".

Tara, thanks for your post. You bring up a good point. When I first realized that I would not be wearing this pendant daily (as I originally intended) I considered taking the stone out, setting it in a more traditional bezeled pendant (thin bezel, short chain attached directly to the bezel) to make it easier to sell. But that would have involved extra funds, plus -- what if it didn't sell and then I would have a pendant that's not my style at all (I would have done white gold, and I don't wear any white metal besides silver). Plus, what if someone wanted platinum instead of white gold, or a chain of a different length, etc.

Maybe I should have the stone taken out of the setting and just sell it loose. I may do that after my ebay auction runs out to tonight. The price would remain the same though.

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

Oh but it looks so nice in that pendant!!

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

I think that pendant is beautiful as-is. But I will point out to any interested buyers ... It would be easy as hell, with that much metal to work with, to pop off the bail and pop on a pair of Mickey Mouse ears and a chain, or a shank, or whatever you might want. Whatever the look you desire, and for a fraction of the price of commissioning a full custom piece for yourself ....

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

Thanks for your idea Circe. You're right, this pendant could be modified to have no bail if that would be someone's preference.

My situation with this pendant has changed a bit. Yesterday I drove 30 miles to a jewelry store whose owner specializes in old stones. He looked at the pendant and said that the stone looks structurally sound and can go in any piece of jewelery, even a ring. He said that people are often afraid of chipped stones because they think it's going to continue chipping, but in reality a chipped stone is more often than not quite stable, because it's done going what it wanted to do in terms of chipping. I hope he's right.

The second part of my changed situation is that a PSer contacted me about my 1.01ct OEC, she was really interested in it, so I decided to sell it to her. The sale is almost completed, I'm planning to ship out tomorrow morning.

Now, I'm kind of split between two options:

1. Set the 1.3ct chippy into a ring and wear it for a while, while preparing a budget for an upgrade to a 1.5ct OEC in a whiter (H-J) color range. Maybe also get some french cuts.

2. Sell chippy, and start looking for an upgrade now. Put all my funds into that, put frenchies on hold for a while.

I'll wait until after Intergem (this coming Friday) to make any decisions. For now, I increased the price of the pendant on Loupe Troop. If someone wants it for $3K or close, that will make my decision for me, it'll be an offer I can't refuse. If not, I'll reconsider the price next weekend and either sell it to a best offer or take it off the market and make myself a ring.

Choices, choices :read:

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

One ring to rule them all, GF. Sell em all and go for the biggun.

Ditto!

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

Also, might I point out ... you could get an upgrade with french cut side stones. Best of all possible worlds!

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

Thanks for your posts Dreamer, Thing, and Circe. I am leaning towards a proper upgrade. I even ordered an ASET-scope today so I can evaluate potential candidates

Circe, French cuts in the setting are awesome, but I'll be putting every spare dollar into the main stone. I'll set it in the exact same kind of setting as my last OEC because it's cheaper, I like the simple look and the yellow gold. Also, I have a very specific vision for my future French cut band, and it consists of 4-5 uniform 4mm stones. In "the distant future, the year 2000" :cheeky:

Ack, exciting! Once the buyer receives the ring tomorrow and confirms that she's keeping it, I may start a "help me find an upgrade OEC thread in Antique & Vintage" :rodent:

Re: 1.3ct OEC pendant

So the jeweller thought it was structurally sound? Oh man, I would buy this in a heartbeat if my boyfriend would let me!!!

ETA: Boyfriend is interested. E-mailed you!
