Re: Blue sapphire ring

Pretty ring! What karat is the white gold? And do you know anything about the sapphire like carat weight, measurements, or whether it's been treated?

I believe it's 18 karat. I cannot read it, it's stamped so small. The sapphire measures about 6mm? Here is a pic I took next to a measuring tape. I don't know if it's been treated?

Re: Blue sapphire ring

Thanks! I would assume heat treatment but if you knew that it was untreated, I believe it would benefit you to disclose that info. I don't know much about gems though. :)

Yeah, I know my other two rings are heat treated, BUT this ring is from a different jeweler....so I have no idea.

Re: Blue sapphire ring

How far does the ring sit off the finger? Which picture would you say is most representative of color?

I'd say the top pic? I can take pictures outside tomorrow. I took them tonite at home. It sits about 1/4 of an inch off the finger.....

Re: Blue sapphire ring

I would actually go with BE treated since it came from a store.

I just noticed there is a tiny diamond missing from the setting, I am bringing it in to have it replaced. I wonder if they can tell if it's natural or heated by looking at it under a loupe?

No, it would have to be sent in for a lab report. If you are selling it for $700 then I'm taking a good guess that your sapphire is snythetic or BE treated.

Re: Blue sapphire ring

I would venture to guess that it's not synthetic because it doesn't look "perfect" and that's what they are trying to achieve with the manufacture of synthetic stones. BE treated is possible but still not super likely. I'd actually lean towards heated. It's not a large sapphire at probably about 4x6, it's quite a bit darker than ideal, but it still has some blue flash, which is unusual for the flat navy blue sapphires you typically find in mall stores.

I'm guesstimating based on size that it probably weighs in around .75-1ct. I'd guess that it probably wouldn't add a huge amount of value to it to try to get a lab report on it.

It's a really beautiful ring with an unusual design! Good luck with your sale!

I don't know what BE treated is, but it is absolutely NOT synthetic. I don't wear synthetic jewelry. My husband paid well over $700 for it. I didn't think it was appropriate to ask what I paid since it's used. Albeit in great condition....

thanks! I'd guess that too for carat weight. It's small. I will ask the owner when I bring it in to have the diamond replaced- she can give an estimate of weight....

Berilium or Lattice Diffusion is when the sapphire is heated to bring out it's best color, they then add in a chemical which can cover the surface or go all the way through the sapphire to bring out the color even better. You see BE sappphires the most on places like ebay, jeweler stores, etc. BE treated gemstones typically aren't loved on PS but they are a great alternative if you are on a budget or if you are looking for a color that can be difficult to find. LD did a very good CS treatment 101 post here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/new-to-coloured-gemstone-buying-read-this-first.174284/

Freke- have you been to zales lately? I happen to be browsing when waiting for a smoothie the other day and I noticed that all the sapphire rings that were synthetic are moving away from the navy coloring and into the more mainstream "royal blue" color. Perhaps because sapphires are making such a big comeback they are getting more options out there. The navy ones still exist, but nicer ones were more prevelant in the stores I was walking through. They even had a few neony ones which threw me for a loop. I should have taken pictures.

No, I meant I didn't feel comfortable asking someone else to pay what I paid, that's all. I am selling it at $700 because I just don't wear it, NOT because the sapphire is synthetic.

My apologies. I post quickly as i was trying to run out to do an errand. Since you are on your way to the jeweler you might think about seperating the ring and the sapphire. The ring is very pretty and people are always looking for empty settings. Then you can keep the sapphire and perhaps recycle it for another project. Just something to think about. I think the ring would look pretty good was just about any CS.

Re: Blue sapphire ring

ok, just left jewelers. Sapphire is heat treated. NOT chemically treated, just heat. .95 carat, 14 carat white gold, rhodium plated.

pics of receipt/insurance value and also some of the stone IN the store under jeweler lights, and outside in natural overcast light.

It's really a beautiful ring. Are you sure you don't want to keep it? :cheeky: I love the bright blue flashes it gives off!

I am NOT a fan of E/W settings. It's a pretty ring, if I DON'T sell, I'll keep it for my daughter. But I think she has her eye on my other ones. She has the size bug too.

Hmmm... I didn't think about that. What would you charge for the setting alone? I'd probably sell the sapphire too...

Re: Blue sapphire ring

your new photos and the new info make the sapphire look great! its a lovely ring. i would keep them together for a moment and give it some time to sell.
goodluck :)

Re: Blue sapphire ring

Oh I just said keep the sapphire since it was a push gift your DH gave you. :halo: I'm sentimental about stones like that  But if you aren't tied to the ring then definitely keep it together. Or sell the sapphire and keep the setting and stick another CS in there. I'm all about options.

But yes definitely give it time to sell first.

Re: Blue sapphire ring

did you see $52 to pop a microscopic diamond in there?

Re: Blue sapphire ring

The ring is really beautiful. I would not separate the sapphire from the setting. It is a nice ring for the price and someone will be glad to get it.

Thanks! I am keeping them together. If it doesn't sell, I'll just keep it for my daughter...

Re: Blue sapphire ring

Price reduced to $650.00

Re: Blue sapphire ring

Do you have a report from a reputable lab that the stone is not heated? Either AGL or GIA would be fine. I think this would help sell the ring.

Did you jeweler say how much it can be resized? The melee on the shank will limit how many sizes one can go up or down.
