I never had intentions to sell this piece, so didn't get paperwork done originally. I just took it to a very reputable, pricescope approved appraiser in los angeles (Patrick Davis) and had an excellent appointment, but he very openly and honestly told me in order to get a true value I needed to go to a colored stone specialist as he didn't know enough about stones without origin reports to give accurate value info; his other option was to send the stone to GIA but the wait time right now is INSANE because of the holidays.
So, I am taking this to yet another appraiser this week but in the meantime wanted to post the listing/ specs that I know.
Sapphire was sold to me as Sri Lankan but again, awaiting someone with more experience to say if it for sure. It is 100% a natural sapphire with evidence of heat treating (Patrick saw the "silk" broken apart under the microscope) but is completely eye clean and has no visible inclusions. It was originally just over 6 carats but I had it precision re-cut to it's new weight of 5.67 - it was totally worth it as it now glitters like you wouldn't believe.
Setting is platinum and has trilliants that equal about .73-.74 in weight, eye clean and bright white but again waiting paperwork before I hazard a guess on grading.
Currently a size 5 and can comfortably be sized up and down at least 2 sizes, potentially more.
Now- Pictures! These are all random from my phone except for the beauty shots my jeweler took. I have pics in flourescent light, bathroom light, soft indoor light, direct sunlight and indirect sunlight. I think I captures the range of it's colors, but in person it is ten times better.
Patrick said his appraisal, based on the info he had, would conservatively be between 8-10K. That could change depending on if we can pinpoint the origin of the stone or I sent to GIA. I am going to be asking 6K or best reasonable offer, pending appraisal. If someone is interested and would want to get it checked out on their own, I would offer a 7 day return period. Once I have paperwork I would still extend a 24 hour viewing period as this is a pretty hefty piece.
And now...bluebell. I hope she finds a good home!
