Soldering rings?

I have three rings that I wear; a 2mm Signed Pieces Raphael plain platinum wedding band, my engagement ring (Blue Nile princess, platinum cathedral) and my anniversary band (Blue Nile .50ct princess channel platinum).

I''ve been thinking of soldering (I hope that''s the right word, lol) for a while now but haven''t because I thought I would mix my rings (plain w/ e-ring, anniversary w/e-ring, plain alone, anniversary band alone) but thinking about it, how I typically wear them is 90% of the time just my 2mm plain band alone (I have kids and stay at home) and when we go out I wear my e-ring w/ my anniversary band for that sparkly. I almost never pair up the plain with the e-ring anymore even though I love the look of them together.

So I''m considering soldering the anniversary band and the e-ring together because the anniversary band spins and I''m constantly fixing it to look right. But I''ve never soldered before and am worried I won''t like it. I understand it makes it one large ring...

Has anyone soldered their rings together? My jeweler said it''s still done all the time.

I had my original set soldered together. my sister has channel set stones in both her e-ring and wedding band and they aren''t full eternity so they were never lined up. she had them soldered together and loves it. she either wears her set or not at all if she''s going to the pool or something. She''s been very happy with her decision. It''s really not a big deal to unsolder them if you did it and decided you didn''t like it for some reason. I say go for it.

I was told if I wanted to get my platunum rings soldered, to have the jeweler use white gold. The melting point for white gold is lower than platinum, so if you ever wanted to undo them, nothing should happen to the platinum.

I soldered my rings and it was a great decision for me. I never had planned to wear my wedding band alone anyway. Because of my job, I wear a plain white gold band to work, as well as work out and do other activities. I wear my set everywhere else. Its a 3 sided pave and with the stories of the diamonds rubbing each other, I figured this would help preserve them. Plus, they were clanking on my fingers and not lined up well on my finger, so soldering allowed them to be perfectly aligned and i just put one ring on now and go. I love it. Its not the option for everyone but I like it.

Thanks everyone! I took them to the jeweler''s today who showed me that my rigns were rubbing against each other and also suggested the soldering, so I went for it. You could clearly see the scratches on both rings!

I asked which metal they would use to solder and was told they''d use platinum.

They are also going to polish the rings and check the prongs. I''m excited to see how it''ll look when I get them back!
