Solid colorless crystal in the table (VS2)

Hello there,

I'm wondering if anyone had any experience with solid colorless crystal/s in the table... Are they visible in certain lights only?
It looks clean/I'm barely seeing anything in a 360 video... but I can see an obvious dark spot in a video where the light is passing directly through the diamond. I'm in love with the diamond but I'm now worried about how visible it's going to be and if it's actually going to bug me.

Please share your thoughts. Thank you!

I have a solid black crystal under the table of my VS1 (AGS) / VS2 (GIA) 1.90 antique cushion.
The videos had me so nervous. I was sure I’d hate it especially with big broad facets to reflect it.
I got it home and it’s a stunner! I never ever notice the crystal unless I intentionally loupe it.

If you have a round brilliant (especially if it’s bigger) I’d say you’re in the clear and not to worry.

If you have an emerald cut you might find it bothersome

This is helpful, thank you! Do you happen to see it more in direct sunlight or in pictures/certain angles? I'm considering an OEC

Without looking it at it at best a guess can be made.
Can your vendor eyeball it for you?

My vendor doesn't seem to be concerned about it and wants me to see it in person.

I'm really confused why their 360 professional video doesn't show the inclusion, but the vendor video (has the light passing though the diamond) does. Which one is the source of truth? Is that normal for colorless crystals?
I know I need to see it, but can't help overthinking

I took mine under good lighting and I had to guesstimate where it might be (knowing the layout of the plot on my cert) then light up the large facet directly under it and look really really hard. Ha.
Then I got out a loupe and it’s the first thing I see.
To me it’s my diamond’s identifying mark and I’ve come to appreciate it.

Super magnifying videos are going to make it look enormous. I’d guess that it’s nothing apparent in person but the vendor would know best at this point.

If you love the stone otherwise and you can return it, I’d definitely give it a shot

I have a crystal under the table and I do not see it.

I have a crystal under the table (grade is SI1). I don't see it unless I loupe it.

Can you post pics? My diamond is an SI1 and i cannot see any of the inclusions with my naked eye, and even with a loupe its very difficult..

Thank you! Do you see it when you take pictures of your ring/stone? Does it look like a black spot or like a dull spot?

I do not see it at all. I pulled the glamour shots from BGD and did not see it in those. The only time I have seen a black spot in any diamond is in one of the OECs from my great grandmother, circa early 1900s. One of those is an I3 and has a black carbon blot in it. If I looked at it straight on it was quite obvious. My daughter wears it now and all I see is a bright sparkly diamond when it is on her hand.

I was shown a modern cushion cut diamond in a jewelry store once with a large crystal. That one I could see as a whitish blob, but that diamond had a large table and was not well cut.

I bought this 0.62ct BGD SI2 stone with colorless crystals in the table. When I look it at a certain angle and really focus a lot (I know exactly where the crystals are already though), I can see them. If I loupe it or zoom in using my phone camera I can see them.

Generally all I see is brightness and sparkles though and the crystals does not bother me because they are colorless rather than dark inclusions that stand out. On casual inspection, the stone is definitely eye clean and looks beautiful.

Depending on the size of the diamond, how close the grading call was to Si1 vs VS1, and where the crystal is listed (ranked) on keys to symbols, the inclusion could be visible to the eye or not visible at all. Even if technically visible, it may or may not be something that detracts from the overall visual appeal of the diamond.

Thank you so much for attaching the link - very helpful!

The biggest variable is you and your eyesight and tolerance. For some people just being able to discern it in the right light serves as an ID tool.
Next big variable is the size of the diamond. A single crystal VS2 in +10ct will always be eye visible but many I1's in under half a carat are not.
A VS2 in the table will be smaller than a VS2 off to the side.
