I fear I've been a bit high maintenance for Jonathan at Distinctive Gem for this engagement ring I'm planning.
I've purchased a 1.89ct round diamond (7.95 - 7.98 x 4.85 mm) and have the setting planned but I fear I've been marinating too long and am now flip flopping on the design.
The current design is a comfort-fit, non-knife edge version of the U-113 by Vatche (with the Vatche basket/tap prongs) with a 3.2mm width on the sides and bottom that tapers to 2.5mm wide on the top. I chose this larger width because my partner had expressed some insecurities about her finger being chubby/short and I had read that having a wider band would help with that, but now that I've read a bit further on it I'm not sure any more. The taper at the top is a compromise to better exaggerate the diamond's size I've also mentioned to her that 3.2mm would be around 2/3 of the ring sizer width (5mm in the photos) and she thinks that might be a bit borderline too large on the width, and might want it a bit narrower than that. She is a size 7.75-8
Based on previous discussions on this forum I'm going to get Vatche to do it as a modification of their usual U-113.
I've attached some photos.
Based on this - my questions are
1. What do you guys think would be the ideal width of the band? Would 3.2mm on the bottom be too wide for her?
2. Should I just go for 2.5mm all the way around with no taper?
3. Does a taper at the top make it difficult to find a wedding band that fits with it (or does it make even earlier to fit a wedding band next to it?)
My partner wants to limit her involvement in this to keep a slight air of surprise around it all so I'm hoping the combined wisdom of Pricescope will help
Thanks in advance!
