I am working on an all- occasion solitaire necklace and am trying to figure out what size to get with consideration that I will more often wear it with my 1ctw CBI studs (They are .50 each) What size would you do to keep things nicely proportionate ?

Also, for an all-occasion solitaire, what type of setting would you go with?

All thoughts and opinions appreciated- Thanks!

I used to think that a solitaire pendant should be larger than the earrings so my first solitaire is 1ct and my earrings are .70ct each.

But these days I have various sized diamond pendants and find everything looks just as good- even my .24ct pendant looks fine with my earrings.

People usually suggest a ratio of 0.67-0.75 of the total ctw of the earrings (so in your case, that would be the ct range since your earrings are 1ctw) but its really just personal preference of the kind of look you're going for. Like my studs are 3ctw, but I don't plan to do a 2ct pendant (probably 1-1.5ct at a max, because I don't want a very big pendant for everyday wear). For a setting I prefer a 6 prong solitaire.

I don't have an answer for you with the size, but I have been wearing a very small gold bezel set diamond daily for over 10 years so as an upgrade I'm having Adam at Old World Diamonds make a gold bezel set solitaire from a .56 OEC. I love the bezel set for solitaire necklaces and they can be dressed up or down IMO.

This isn't my necklace, but another one of his bezel sets: https://www.instagram.com/p/CQv-g8-D9Se/

I don’t buy into the “ratio rule” when it comes to diamond studs vs. solitaire pendant. I wear approx. 2ctw studs daily but when I was deciding on a pendant for every day wear I knew I wanted something under 1ct. Ended up with .85ct set in a sliding bezel on an 18” chain with stops at 16” and 17”. Makes it super versatile for layering, but substantial enough to wear alone.

I'm a fan of a sliding bezel as well. I have one solitaire necklace that is in a basket and fixed on the chain and it moves up my neck more than the ones that I have that are sliding bezels. As far as size, get what you think gives you the look you want. I wouldn't choose the size of a pendant based on the size of your earrings. Others think that it should move from smaller (ears) down to largest (ring) with the pendant in the middle, but I don't think that really matters. It's just personal preference.

I agree that size is totally a personal preference. One thing to keep in mind is that as you go up in carat size and diameter you are also going up in depth which might make you feel like the solitaire is sticking out from your chest. I also strongly prefer a sliding bezel pendant.

I had my original 1.33 MRB engagement diamond set into a pendant for my daughter and tried it on when it arrived. I felt it might actually be bigger than I would like for every day wear. Shown here in comparison to my Tiffany Victoria medium necklace which I feel comfortable wearing 24 x 7. It just felt lighter and flatter. But my daughter has no issue wearing the solitaire pendant 24 x 7.

There aren't any hard or fast rules, but I would definitely also take your ER size into consideration (and not exceed it). I prefer diamond pendants that slide, otherwise they can flip.

I have .828 ctw ACA studs that are proportionally close to 1 ctw studs and am considering an .80 ct diamond pendant on a dbty chain with 13 point melee (what my tennis bracelet has) and my e-ring is 1 ct.

I think 3/4 ct sounds perfect!

Thats so pretty!

Thank you all for the input in! So based on all that I’m thinking will narrow down to the range of .75 to just shy of a carat

I wasn’t aware of the flipping issue! Going to definitely keep that in mind

Just found that thread- I LOVE how yours turned out!

I agree with .75-1.0 ct with .5 each studs. I personally like the e-ring to be the largest diamond, then the pendant, and the studs smaller than the pendant.
