Funny theory...keep your customer base alive....they will be back next week to spend again.

Mad, yes I am. Single ingredient ban isn''t enough. And why has it taken so long to see some action. And this article is months away from the actual cease and desist. Arggh. Just stop today!

Trader Joes

I thank you TJ for doing something...but isn''t there more you can do?

I don''t buy any of the mentioned products...will still continue to frequent TJ''s.

I love TJs. We get just about all of our groceries from there. A small ban on a few questionable items from China is a good thing. Is it good enough? US companies are so deep in imports from China that I'd hardly look to TJs for not doing enough. It's better than nothing. I wish more companies like MATTEL, for example, would follow suit. The US needs to end this dependency on China.

My rhetoric is always: The US needs to stop offshoring. Produce as much as we can in the US. Buy from the US. This unfortunately is unobtainable at this point, as globalization is now a runaway train.

Interesting topic DKS!

Coatimundi...I agree with you! anything is better than nothing.

But did you notice the wording? They are removing the FOR EXAMPLE: edamame in a single ingredient package...but if there is edamame ingredient is in a frozen entree from the same source...it is still going to be allowed! That fine print of only SINGLE ingredient ban is an insult to me. That is the part that bothers me. The family of the CEO will know which items to avoid, while the rest of us have no clue where the source of what ingredient is coming from-arghhh.

I don''t live near a Trader Joe''s, unfortunately. When we visit SOCAL that is where we get most of our grub though. I do love it and envy those of you that have so many choices to shop.

I just want our food source to get safer NOW. Not wait. Who knows what side effects our children will experience from the source they are fed now. We only hear about serious illness and deaths...there are the quiet slow ticking time bombs that we still aren''t aware of. FDA is what protects us...there should be nothing that isn''t FDA in America period.

Thanks for your input. I agree with the toys...too.

I hear ya DKS--very good point about the slow ticking time bombs. I think about these things all the time. I actually just poured water out of a plastic bottle(from tjs)into a glass--and I'm wondering what kind of estrogens are being emitted from that plastic as I chug the water.

Sometimes I feel like it's a blessing and a curse to be alive in 2008. We get to see so many technologies and advancements, but then we get to see the folly that often accompanies it.

I love to chow down, and I wish I didn't have to worry about where my food comes from and how it might make me ill!

But, hopefully these small steps can create some change. We can only hope!

(GAWD, I sound like I'm in some kinda mood today!

eta: that fine print thing you mentioned? yah, that is frustrating. How are we supposed to know what's what? I go to TJs about 3 times a week--I think I'll ask them about that next time I go. A very good point indeed.
