here is a question for all you regulars... is it possible for the same diamond to be quoted by 2 different online vendors? i assume both are sourcing from the same wholer and dont have the stone on hand.

i have found a stone via USA Certed and one matching every angle, %, and dimension on james allen. would this be the same stone?

thanks

Neal sums up the business models of the differnet approaches really well. Lots of people here recommend to focus more on the "owned" stones rather than the memo stones. My opinion is that the jeweler can off er more help and information with the stones they own, but that doesn''t mean that there aren''t great memo stones out there at good values. THe jeweler can probably buy them at better prices, but then they have the cost of holding the inventory, which for diamonds, is non-trivial! You probably have to do more leg work on the memo stones than the owned stones that the vendor can hand hold you through th evaluation of. I got a beautiful memo stone from USA Cert. The cert was only a couple of a weeks old when I bought it. I had to know what I was looking for an be able to get the information I wanted along with see it with a local appraiser. USA Certed was able to provide me ll of this pretty efficiently. IMO, either way works, as as long as you get the info you need efficiently, you should consider both types of stones.

thank you both. great insight and information.

as for USA Cert...i have the benefit of living in manhattan and they filtered the list down to the ones i can walk a few blocks and go see for myself.

(for others that may be looking. i found email communication with them MUCH easier than that website!)
