Hello!

So - a few months ago, I had asked the group about recutting an OMC for my friend - there was a significant chip/fracture along the side of the diamond - it pretty much extended from the girdle all the way to the bottom. AND you can see how the chip affected the diamond when you look at it face down. Some of you recommended that she enjoy as is and some recommended a recut since the chip/fracture could affect the integrity of the diamond. She didn't want to be bothered with the recut and she also didn't want to wear the ring. So, she sold the diamond to me : )

I sent the diamond to Ashley at Southwest Diamond and my gosh -- he is SO nice and professional and patient (I can go on and on) - he gave me options regarding how he can recut the diamond: Antque cushion (approx 0.9 cts), Modern cushion (approx 0.85 cts), and Modern round with excellent ideal proportions (approx 0.75 cts). I spoke to him about the recutting on the phone and he was partial to the Antique cushion and I was too!

And wow! The final diamond is SO beautiful! I hope my pictures capture the nice facets - I'm sitting under a tree so the green is a reflection of the tree.

I don't know the color of the diamond -- Ashley had asked if I wanted it to be sent to GIA - I declined b/c I don't plan to sell the diamond and I really didn't care. The pictures of the diamond in the setting is before the recut - I don't know if you can see the significant chip on the side - my photography skills leave much to be desired!

Thanks for the update. The diamond looks very pretty!

What your plan for it? How much carat weight was lost in the recut?

It turned out beautiful!

Wow - beautiful recut and still retained so much weight! Congrats on a great buy and recut!

What a great story! Good on you for taking a chance. You wound up with a lovely diamond that has a history.

Can you link the old thread? I’m curious to see what the discussion was. Obviously this is a great outcome!
