I've been having some fun since falling down the PS rabbit hole, picking up a CS here and there on LT and from some of the preferred vendors...nothing too expensive, and not the most desirable colours etc, but just stuff that appeals to me for whatever reason. Since I know nothing about gems, it's been a great way to get my feet wet, and now I have the beginnings of my own little collection.
One of the things I could not stop looking at online was a medium dark yellow-brown sphene from the Gem Trader. I hesitated to pull the trigger, because y'know...brown? But the photo, capturing some amazing glowy yellow/gold/orange/red dispersion, kept drawing me back again and again.
When it arrived, it was indeed brown, and at first I was a little disappointed, but the second it caught any little bit of light it was all warm and glowing golden and amber, with flashes of orange and red. It's a weird little guy. My husband named him Dobby, because he can be a little bit grubby and unassuming at first glance, but lights up all warm and magical with any light or movement.
My H was so taken with it, that before I'd really made up my mind, he whisked him off to David Klass for a surprise setting, and it was a lovely surprise!
Here's what my H and DK came up with, based on one of the vintage necklaces saved in my inspiration folder-
Those are "natural tiger eye cabochons"" as accent stones. Not something I know anything about, and wouldn't have been my first choice, but they do accent without outshining Dobby. It's made of unplated WG, and the workmanship is fantastic on the scrollwork, milgrain etc.
I have more pics, but the photo uploading is being super finicky, so I am going to have to come back later for another go.
