My pink spinel is here! It took quite a while, but it finally arrived. Of course, it is already dark, so photoshoot will have to wait until tomorrow (I am such a meanie  )

But I will say that it is beautiful and glowy.

You are a temptress!! But I'm oddly unsatisfied....

Not even a vendor pic? :nono:

Ok, here we go!

First off, the vendor picture (I posted this on some thread, sometime ago). It is very close to what I see.

1.05 ct Mahenge spinel from Tam (first purchase)

Here is my picture. My camera is doing odd things to colours, as the bluish tone doesn't exist at all.

The previous picture was in indirect sunlight. Here it is in the shade, showing some of its glow.

And a very odd handshot. My skin isn't that colour and my spinel isn't washed out :(( ... but I know PSers will demand a handshot and I just want to say I tried :blackeye:

I’m sorry about how the pictures turned out. I know that Tan’s pictures, especially the videos, are almost always spot on and your pictures made it look like a completely different stone. :(sad Still, thank you for the pics.

Lady D,
I feel your pain with washed out photos, but thank you for them nonetheless. I'm sure it's striking in person.

Here are all my baby Mahenges:

- 1.7cts barion by Dan
- 5.3cts rough
- 1.05cts from Tam
- 0.68cts Portuguese oval

Although, once again, my camera throws the colours on the glowy stones way off, it is interesting to compare the very clean Portuguese cut with the glowy effect of the other stones (in real life the colour of both ovals are quite close).

TL and Chrono - thank you and sorry for the photographical disappointment. I used my new point and shoot (a Panasonic Lumix) and, while it is fine for most things, it is not good for when you want precise colours.

I will see if I can get my DSLR out, which is what I usually use for photographing stones.

Thank you for posting the pics. I'm sure it's even more stunning in real life.

Do you have any plans for this stone?

I have no doubt that your new spinel is a stunner Lady_D!

It's quite frustrating when your camera can't capture what you see. I had that same issue with my mahenge. When I do get the color right it seems like the clarity is off, it's sleepy, and vice versa.

I hope you can post more pictures! Any plans to set it? =)

check your white balance too.

Mahenge's are extremely challenging to photograph. I feel your pain, I have been struggling with them for the last few months now. That piece of rough looks like it has some good color, Lady Disdain

The 0.68 is very clean. I like it most, although the cut is not the best. I would say your photo differs from that of Tan, but it is a beautiful stone nonetheless.

It's no secret that I love mahenges. It is frustrating when the camera can't capture what the eye sees! I love the silky stones. They have such a glow about them! Congrats on another great addition to your collection. :naughty:

I like your new piece, but I have fallen in love with your ring! I want one like this!!! Where did you buyed the setting? I will start to look for a hot pink spinel and semi mounts in this style. It is really beautiful.

Congrats! Will you be setting it?

Congrats! I also love glowy stones. Will you be setting it?
