I won this used setting on Ebay for very little and I''m thinking of putting my ebay spinel (1.5 carats) in it. Yay or nay?

The setting has 40 points of SI diamonds and it''s 14K gold. It''s a cathedral setting and pretty thick.

The blackness on the stone is the camera shadow. The spinel is a very pink lavender (more pink than this photo suggests) and 1.5 carats. Although I paid very little for the spinel, I really like the color and cutting (for a native cut), and I think it deserves to be set. I''m not a spinel expert though, so I hope you spinel people don''t cringe at it.

I really like it. I think it looks great in that setting.

I like it!

I really like it in that setting. Very pretty.

Absolutely, yes.

My only concern is will the edges of the Spinel be protected enough? Are you "heavy" on your rings?

Looks lovely to me! T_L is branching out

Ohhhhh, I like that setting! It looks lovely in there, and if you feel it will be protected enough, I''d go for it!

Hey TL, I thought you hated spinels - in fact, for some reason, every time I see a spinel, I think, "oh yeah, TL isn''t very fond of these." But never mind that - the ring isn''t bad, but honestly, it doesn''t jump out at me. I''m also a little wary of your description of the thick band - do you have a side view? Hmm, I''ll have to come back and have another look, because it is nice, just not wow.

I too worry about the corners being protected even though I like it being set that way. Also, is it set kinda high? Have it set lower if you do end up using this setting. It is a pretty setting.......just not sure about them together.

Cellantani,
I don't hate spinels, but it is hard to find a nice one. I think I'm pretty happy with this one for what I paid. In certain lighting it's pink, and in other lighting, it's the exact shade of lilacs. Truthfully, when I bought this on ebay, I wasn't expecting a drop dead gorgeous stone, but when I opened the package, I was pleasantly surprised. It was only $25 and free S&H. It has a few inclusions, but at least that tells me it's natural.

I think, for what I paid for the spinel, it wouldn't be appropriate to spend a lot on a setting, even an LOGR. I want this for a pinky ring.

LD, and LTP, as for being hard on my jewelry, I am very careful, so I don't think it will get damaged, but you never know.

Thanks for everyone's comments.

Do you have a side view of the setting? The diamonds in the band must be a good size if they look fairly large in comparison to the 1.5 ct spinel. I guess I'm just used to see itty bitty melees but if you don't mind making a bold statement, by all means, it looks great.

I love the spinel, and I love the setting - just not sure that I totally love them together, I feel that the width of the band may be competing with the spinel - it looks like it might be suited to a daintier band - but that is just my opinion, I like a bigger size difference between band and stone. I think the color of that spinel is

Maybe I need a further away hand shot. Do you still think the band is too thick?

It''s going to be a pinky ring.

I think it''s purfect. It''s going to be very pretty. I don''t think it''s too wide at all.

Oh and your new trillion ring is beautiful and unique.

Oh and your new trillion ring is beautiful and unique.
Thanks for noticing Mochi, that's my 2.6 ct green mint grossular. I threw it in my old setting.

Thanks to everyone for their kind words and/or comments. I'll go to the jeweler next week!

I like it.

TL, with the shot at regular distance I think it looks beautiful in that setting! (the initial closeup kind of threw the proportions off to me) - it will make a great pinky ring, can''t wait to see it back from the jewelers!

I''m used to very delicate looks so it still looks too big for me. However, those who love wide bands will think it''s perfect.

Thanks again for everyone''s comments.

Chrono,
I have big fat fingers, so I think the look is okay for me.

I like the color of the spinel and I like the setting alot. I think they do look much more suited to each other in the "hand shot." Beautiful color on the spinel! Did you post more pictures of it somewhere?
