What is the difference between 18/0, 18/8 ,etc.

We got some silverware we registered for and I don''t care for it so I am going to return it. Its nice, just don''t really like it with my dishes.

I was on the bedbathandbeyond.com site and see all these classifications...what do they mean? I have some Martha Stewart Stainless stuff and it''s rusted which is irritating...so I want a full nice set, with at least 45 pieces that is preferably under 80 bucks. Id like to get it at BedBathandBeyond because I can exchange this for it.

Thank you!

18/10 is stronger than 18/8. I just got a nice set from Bloomingdales and it''s wonderful. It definitely holds up to the all important ice cream test!!!! Our other set bent like no other!!! HTH.

mine rusts too ame!!! I thought it was just me...let me know what you find out.

So don''t buy anything lower than 18/10 I guess. I think my Martha set is like 18/0 ...not good.

Yup, 18/10 is the best on the market right now. Also you can try QVC, their Reed and Barton is great too.

Oh good idea

plus QVC has a 30 day money back quarantee. Try it out for a month and see if you like it!!!!

I never even touched the silverware we got. Its still in the box it got shipped in. heh. I found one on QVC I like. 50 bucks no less.

Thanks for the idea. I forget they have all this stuff.

Ryan doesn''t give a crap. He could care less if anything matched.

My everyday stainless is a Reed and Barton pattern. I registered for it when I got married almost 15 years ago. It''s never rusted, never warped or bent. I can scoop out the hardest ice cream and it never budges. It''s probably been through a thousand cycles in the dishwasher. It''s really nice and still looks great after all these years.

That truly is the trait of good silverware....so frustrating. At school I had a cheapie set and I''d always have to try and bend the spoon the other way, which was always harder than bending it in the first place!

Are there any secrets for taking water spots off the knife blades? That drives me crazy - you set the table and all I see are water spots on the knives!

Do we like this?

I''m coming in a bit late on this but after reading through it I wanted to add that I''ve got Towle stainless 18/10, super shiny and VERY heavy. I''ve seen Towle on Overstock and smartbargains also for very reasonable prices.

As for water spots I definitely use an additive in the dishwasher such as Jet Dry to prevent that from happening. So far so good, they always come out shiny.
