My FI and I went to look at men''s wedding bands and can''t believe how expensive they are. It is $2300 for a plain platinum band, no design, no diamonds, just the band.

You can get a platinum men''s ring for MUCH, much cheaper than that. It depends on the width of course. For example:

half-round
flat

Personally I think platinum (and even gold) are unnecessary for men''s bands. I got DH''s band from etsy. It''s unique and it was only $70!

Do you HAVE to have platinum? I agree with Hudson_Hawk. Most men aren''t that into their rings. My husband has a titanium band. It''s very light, which it makes it comfortable for someone who isn''t used to wearing rings, and it''s cheap. He has to take his ring off a lot for his line of work, so if he loses it or something happens to it, we can replace it easily.

Many men I know are going with titanium, tungsten, and stainless steel these days.

Better to trade out the type of metal - give up the platinum and/or gold and I am sure you will find a better deal.

FI''s band is titanium I think (it has been so long since we bought it I can''t remember what it was made out of) and it was about $250 and it''s a really really cool ring!

Tungsten is amazing for men''s rings! It doesn''t scratch, doesn''t bend, basically no maintenance, and they sell them for $50 online.

Uhhh whoever is selling a plain band for $2300 is ripping people off! Jeez!

I tried to get my husband a tungsten band, but he actually wanted gold. Some guys are into precious metals more than others. So you never know; ask him if platinum is really what he wants before you buy.

my sister custom made my BILs ring fancy, and he didn''t care for it that much, he preferred his titanium band instead. my DH just wanted a unique textured ring for $300 and that was it.

My DH loves his plain tungsten band, and even in an unusual mm width, it was still only $60. It looks very classy and chic, and it stays shiny forever!

If you really want platinum, check out www.eweddingbands.com. They had reasonable prices the last time I looked, and there were a lot of different widths and such to choose from.

Ummm, even Tiffany sells platinum men's bands for less than $2300:

Tiffany Milgrain band, 6mm $2100

Tiffany 4 mm Platinum $1450

My FI definitely wanted gold or platinum. It seemed only fair considering the cost of my rings. He ended up choosing an 8mm two-toned gold ring from a local jeweler for well under $1000.

i agree with HH above, i''ve seen some lovely rings on etsy, my favorite so far is this seller:
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5012313

depending on where you are located, does your downtown have a jewelry district? it should not cost that much for a band, most diamond bands don''t cost that much

My DH wears a 3 mm natural white gold band (no rhodium plating, very cool warmth to it) and it cost us $200. It''s very substantial, and I think $200 is super reasonable for a gold band. He loves it.

The 6mm Lucida Platinum band in his size is $2300. That''s the one he wants.

He wants platinum and wants either Cartier or Tiffany. He liked the Tiffany bands more though. We were just surprised by the price considering my legacy band was $2750 but has diamonds all around. He'll wear it forever so were getting the Lucida band

Personally, I think it's wonderful that your hubby-to-be cares about his wedding ring enough to be picky -- and if he sees it as a forever ring, and if you can swing it, I 'd suggest you indulge him. Why shouldn't a man be able to take pride in (and brag on) his wedding ring as much a woman does?

If on the other hand he want to spend XXX on his ring because yours cost XXX+++.... I'd suggest you run as fast as you can!

FI found a band he wants which is white gold with a baguette diamonds.. it was a little over $3,000

We are going to go the custom route- it should be alot cheaper.

And it really has to be T&Co/Cartier? He wouldn''t be down with a custom ring made in that style?

If he''s really set on a platinum ring from T&Co or Cartier, then I guess you''re just going to have to suck it up at fork over the money.

Very true. My guy who is really into gems and whatnot, his father was a gemologist major in college, really wanted white and yellow gold custom celtic band... its all about the guy!

If you can afford it, then I agree with the PP that said you should try to indulge him, since so much focus usually goes on the woman and her dream ring. DH is not allowed to wear his wedding ring to work, so we knew there was a high probability of him losing it as he removes it so often. For that reason we chose the most generic of titanium bands for less than $100, that way it won't be devastating if he loses it.

I agree witht he previous poster that if that is the ring he absolutely has to have, and you can afford, indulge him!

I initially wanted a T&CO ring no matter what...but when we went to go look and I realized that for the same amount of money I could get a much bigger stone and nicer cut stone, I changed my mind.

Then I wanted us to get plain platinum bands from T&CO, but again with the sticker shock, I realized that platinum is platinum no matter where I go...we ended up ordering both of our plain platinum bands for under $1000 from www.eweddingbands.com and we LOVE them!

I am just grateful that he let ME make the choice to move away from my T&CO dream instead of forcing it upon me.

Good Luck and hopefully, you will find something you both love!

FI''s platinum wedding band was about $1800... Not custom. Pretty run-of-the-mill. We were floored that it was that expensive. I think it''s a "Diana Classic" or something of that sort.

He didn''t like palladium bands or tungsten bands. White gold wasn''t an option because of a major nickel allergy. So alas- we ended up with platinum.

I feel your pain... but maybe take him to some other high-end jewelry store and have him look at the rings. I don''t understand Tiffany/Cartier fixations, especially when it comes to mens'' bands. I''m sure he''d find an equally nice band elsewhere??

Definitly won''t do custom. I too want him to get a designer ring. I''d want him to go with Tiffany''s since my ering and band are both from there. We can afford it, but it doesn''t make the cost any less shocking. I thought men''s bands would run around 1000

I love what you said and I totally agree. He has put a lot more effort into the wedding process than I thought he would and I love it.
