Well after a really tough week where my boy took a very strange, unplanned trip to Calgary,Alberta --- he propose on Thursday night. I was completely shocked.
He had tied a little bag to my dog''s collar. I saw it, but I thought that it was a bag of dog treats because my dog was trying really hard to get into it. So I picked her up and untied the bag. I put the bag on the floor for her, and she had her nose right inside. He had this weird look on his face and asked me if I was going to open it. He said it was for me and not for the puppy!!! He got down on his knee and told me that this was the reason he went on the trip. Eventually, I said yes --- but it took awhile because he totally caught me off guard. He actually had to remind me that I hadn''t really given him an answer!!!
Anyway, onto the ring of course. Sorry there are no pictures yet --- my camera is broken and my fiance''s (ahhh!!!) is about 3 hours away where we go to school during the year. It is a square emerald cut, 1.02 ct, E, VVS2, excellent polish and symmetry, GIA cert. It''s super white and sparkles so much more than the asschers I have seen in person!!! It has 8 small square cut stones on each side of the band. I think they might be princess cut, but they are so small that it just ends up looking like lots of little sparkles.
We have had a lot of difficulty finding nice square emeralds in Saskatchewan. We had a few brought in by a local jeweller, but he would only bring in EGL stones (G and H colour) and they were so yellow and dull, even under the store lights.
So my fiance made some really lame excuses about why he had to go to Calgary (I could tell that he was lying and that was why we were arguing last week). He ended up finding one square emerald in Calgary at an Asian jeweller who bought the stone because it was such a beautiful cut. It turned out that none of his customers liked anything but round cuts, so this little gem was on for about the same price as if it had been online!!! He was seriously considered buying online, but just couldn''t feel comfortable without seeing it in person. The whole duty/customs thing was kind of difficult and made it expensive to view them in Canada.
He ended up going much higher in colour and clarity than we originally wanted. It is also slightly smaller than what he wanted --- but incidently the size I was looking for
. In the end, he said once he saw this little sparkler there was no other stone. It was gorgeous like me (yeah he actually says stuff like this!!!) and he went back three times during all his shopping to be sure he got the best price on the best stone.
Anyway I am over the moon --- now the next hurdle is the actually wedding, which will either need to be in the spring of 2007 or we will have to wait until 2009 when I am done with the bar exam and his is done with his CA designation. We still haven''t decided what to do with that yet.
Thanks so much to the ladies here for the support!!! I have really enjoyed my time here, and it so strange and a bit sad to leave!!!
