Hi everyone! It''s been a while, but I''m back, married, and still shiny.
I''m so sorry to report that my poor ring met the car door in May, and the car door won. I managed to sever 2 prongs and the princess baby popped right out.
Luckily, my ring was insured the day it was purchased way back in April 2005. I don''t know if being an employee got me any special treatment, but I couldn''t be happier with how State Farm handled my claim. The accident was Tuesday and I had a check in hand on Friday. I took the check to the jeweler on Saturday and voila, I''m shiny again.
My old stone was a 0.81ct E, eyeclean SI1 Princess with a verrrrry large table. It always appeared larger than it was for some reason, and I really loved it''s performance. It wasn''t the greatest at throwing colored light, but the white light off of that thing was blinding.
from the cert:
0.81ct square mod brilliant
meas: 5.32 x 5.25 x 3.72
table: 79%
depth: 70.9%

My family jeweler (Diamonds by Janet, 74 Bowery, NYC) knew how much I loved my ring and made it a point to do everything in her power to salvage my setting. Once I arrived at her store that Saturday morning, I had several princess replacement stones to choose from in my budget-
a 1.24ct D, SI1 (very pretty, fantastic light return - way better than my old stone, but it had a red crystal visible when looking through the pavilion. My husband couldn''t see it, but I could see it clearly.)
a 1.01 E, VS1 (very pretty, totally clean gorgeous stone, but it seemed small for the weight)
a 1.16 F, VS1 (another pretty stone, but it just didn''t speak to me. i don''t even know why.)
So I decided maybe the replacement wasn''t going to happen today and that I''d wait until she got a new selection of stones in. Just out of curiosity, I asked to see some other shapes in my budget. She brought out some emeralds, a radiant, two ovals, and two cushions. I''ve never been a round kind of girl - I like to be a little less traditional sometimes!
The emeralds were beautiful stones, but didn''t provide the sparkle I wanted. The radiant was G color, but unfortunately I was blessed with a very good eye for color and the warmish hue was distracting to me. It was not at ALL yellow, but my jeweler knows my quirks and didn''t even tell me the color - she made me guess, and I was right. It shocked her, but I was right. I knew I had to stay in the D,E,F range. The ovals just weren''t my thing, and I was disappointed at the spread of the first cushion and didn''t even want to look at the second. Janet opened up the second cushion anyway, and that baby sparkled right at me. The rectangular shape intrigued me!
I know many people (especially on this site!) are very into angles and specs and I wish I was able to do that - but I judge solely on how the stone speaks to me.
My new cushion is 1.13ct, F, VVS2, and I love her!
from the cert:
1.13ct cushion brilliant
meas: 7.39 x 5.97 x 3.52
table: 59%
depth: 59.0%

I''ve attached some pics of the old ring and then the new ring (still in my original setting) with wedding band (happily married 11/23/07 after a 2.5 yr engagement and 7.5 years of dating!)
my empty wallet served as a nice backdrop for the pics! hah
(eek - please ignore my eczema flare up in this pic
