Stone height and brilliance - is there a correlation?

I’ve been told by the experts that it doesn’t matter what height you set your stones light is reflected through the top of the Diamond (modern round brilliant) so the setting height has no influence on the brilliance/light return. Is this really true? I feel like my higher set stones reflect back more light and thus appear more brilliant, despite what the experts say. Anyone else have insight on l this or am I completely confusing this issue?!

Light does enter through the top. However, I do know what you are saying and it think it is attributed to the fact that is more suspended in air for performance to be seen. This was the concept of the original Tiffany mounting. Is there a reason your are asking with regard to a specific mounting and/or stone?

What are the proportions of your higher set diamond?

3 different things happening, light return and contrast and 3d.
Face up light return will be the same high or low mount.
The contrast and 3d appearance does change of the hand, ring, and environment combined.
This was the idea behind the super high settings that were popular for a while for up to around 75 pointers.
The idea was arguably that it made them look bigger and brighter.
What it did do is make for a lot of lost stones and damaged settings.

I think there’s a range of what constitutes high.
