Stone too large?

I purchased an 8mm AVC moissy. It's in the process of being set but I am really worried that it will look too large for my taste and lifestyle. I realize I sound crazy but... I'm not a flashy person and I am also concerned I will look ridiculous walking around with nearly a 3 carat.

The reason I bought it is because I absolutely adore the facets and light play in the AVC line and I didn't want to squint with a tinier stone.

It's too late to return.

What to do.. what to do..

Wear it and see how you feel once it’s here. How are you setting it? An elaborate, high, pave-encrusted setting with filigree and a halo will be much more noticeable than a low-set simple solitaire. So that may be an option to dress it down?

Diamond/gemstone shrinkage syndrome is real. You will find the size just right or too small once you start wearing it :twisted2: If you are not a flashy person perhaps you could put the stone in a simple setting? You bought it in that size to enjoy the facet pattern, wear it and enjoy. People have different areas they spend money on, you happened to spend on pretty things!

Oh wow!! Now that is a honker!! :) I'd love to see handshots.

I am putting my stone in a very low profile solitaire so *fingers crossed* it looks good.

IMG_0245.JPG IMG_0246.JPG This my 8.56 X 8.56 AVC - ring size, 4-3/4 and it doesn't look too large on my hand. Very understated, just the right size.
I’ve been wanting to see this! Do you have handshots for us?

My diamond engagement ring is a 1.84 carat, I think about 7.8 mm round. I also have a 3 carat moissy, 8.3 x 8.3 mm square. Even though there’s a huge carat difference, the AVC doesn’t look HUGE because of the shape and depth where it carries some weight.

I have an AVC moissy that is 8.5 mm in a 3 stone ring. They have a deep table so a 3 carat moissy is about the same as my 2 carat round brilliant in diameter (8.3mm). It won’t look too big unless you have a very small finger. You will probably be surprised when you get it that it is smaller than you think. I wish I had gone up to a 9mm. Shrinkage is real!

Your concern is not uncommon! Because of their low cost, the tendency with simulants is to get a very large stone, then have concerns about believability and others' perceptions. Since you can't return it for smaller, embrace all it's wonderful sparkliness! Depending on your finger size, a 3 carat equivalent may not appear as large as you think.

Thank you for the handshot, Queenie60.

@swaye2010 and @Tophat1 any chance you'd want to post pictures of your rings? :)

Mine is in Jonathan’s hands getting a new setting so I don’t have it at the moment but I would be happy to in another 1-2 weeks

We have been talking about moissanites a bit more on WB but every now and then I look over here. I purchased a loose stone off of ebay from starsgem8. I just happen to ask them if they could make a duplicate of the Meghan Markle ring and they said ‘yes’. The ring is two toned 18K gold with 8.5 x 8.5 ACC and two .50 round brilliants G/H. I will create a thread with more details once I receive the other 2 rings I ordered so I can speak to the overall quality and my experience. Total costs was around $700 which includes the special request for the stone to be cut like the Harro,CAD, ebay and shipping fee’s. Paypal covers the risk of ordering directly from China and there are some obvious language challenges but I didn’t find it too difficult because I sent lots of pictures and my own e-ring CAD to use as a guideline for my measurements. Several other people have placed orders either through Starsgem8 or Tianyu Gems and we should all be able to speak to our experience over the next few weeks. It is a good solution for anyone on a budget or willing to take a chance for a secondary ring.

I wouldn’t worry about it being too small. It sounds huge but once you get it, you’ll see it’s not. I have a 3ct AVC from Jonathan and I love it! It’s the perfect size for my 4.75 finger. I went with a solitaire style setting because I didn’t want it to be too flashy. Besides, diamond shrinkage syndrome is real! :eek2::lol:

I love the big chunky facets. I could sit and look at them all day...mesmerizing.

My ring for reference.

My avatar is a 4.38 AVC moissy with a ring size of 7.5. I was coming from a three-stone ring with a 0.75 square radiant diamond center, and I worried that the AVC was gonna look HUGE! Now that I’ve lived with it for about six weeks, I feel like it’s the perfect size. I wouldn’t worry. ;)2

Not the best pic but you should be able to get a sense for size. Here’s the 8.3mm AVC (3 ct equivalent) vs a 1.84 ct WF ACA RB. The AVC does look bigger but not ridiculously so

Thank you, Tophat. You're right, actually. It looks substantial but not overpowering. Your new ring is so beautiful!!

Thank you! I really wanted a diamond AVC when we were originally ring shopping but we just couldn’t afford one of enough size to really appreciate the faceting. I was so happy when the moissanite version came out!
