Hello and Happy New Year to all the members of the PS community!!
I would like to ask for opinions on the following problem:
Yesterday was the last day of an extremely difficult and stressful year for me. My DH, who has stood by my side through the hardest of times, wanted to do his best in order to make the end of the year as exciting and happy as possible.
We are currently on vacation at his country of origin. So he went out to a reputable jeweler, that his family has used repeatedly in the past for numerous projects and bought me the most beautiful diamond eternity ring, that I have been wanting for so long!!!
I can't express the happiness that I felt when I opened the box! It was exactly what I wanted and didn't dare to hope that I would get on New Year's Eve!
The only problem is the fact that the ring is bigger than my size and cannot be resized. There is no sizing bar on the ring. There are diamonds all around.
Furthermore, there is no way that we can go back to the store and get a smaller size. First of all because there is no available eternity ring on my size as my husband informed me. Furthermore, I can't go to this jeweler and seek any other help regarding this issue, because today the store is obviously closed and tomorrow morning we will be flying back home early.
I already ordered online those ring size adjusters, which look like transparent spears (I'm sorry if the description is wrong!) and they will be delivered in two weeks. In the mean time I'm stacking my new eternity ring with my engagement ring and another very thin eternity band that I have. Nevertheless I feel sad and stressed out because I would like to be able to wear this new eternity ring alone for every day, when I don't feel like stacking so many rings together.
Furthermore, I'm afraid that my jeweler back home won't be able to help either because there are holes all around the inside of the ring and there is no space to place sizing beads etc.
I'm frustrated. I so want to enjoy this new ring that I have dreamt of for years and the size problem is stressing me out and not allowing me to be happy.
Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?
I'm attaching photos of the ring, worn alone and stacked with my ER and thin band. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much! (Please excuse my dry hands).

HI,
You know, your jeweler at home might still be able to add sizing beads. I have an eternity ring that was too large and there are stones all around with open backs. My jeweler was still able to add a few small sizing beads to make it fit. He couldn't do sizing cushions because of the open backs, but he was able to add small little balls on the bars that separate the stones. Here are a few photos.

Thank you so much for this!!!! It gave me hope!!! The inside of my ring is similar to yours. I'm attaching a photo. I think that this might actually work!!!
By the way... another question for you @Lookinagain and everybody else who might know the answer. In this case, when the back of the setting is open, would the placement of the sizing beads harm in any way the diamonds ?

Echoing what @Lookinagain said. I think it's a good idea to buy a full eternity a little too big , because hands will get larger eventually with age ... I haven't experienced any change at all throughout 6 pregnancies and weight gain, but now (I have actually slowly lost weight after my last child) I have gained a smidge...

Congratulations on this wonderful present. I wish you a happy, healthy and successful year 2022

ETA: this shouldn't harm the diamonds

The silicone spiral sizers work for me on my eternity! It’s not ideal but it is functional. How too much big is your eternity?

It looks gorgeous on you, and I feel your pain! I have an eternity that is too big, I’m a size 5 and the eternity is 7.5… but it was SUCH a good deal and I rationalized that I could wear it on other fingers until my weight or arthritis was such that the eternity band fit ;)

You can make them smaller… but you sure can’t make them bigger! Perhaps in 10-20 years you will be thanking your lucky stars that this eternity band is the size that it is! Hugs!

I don’t see how it would harm the diamonds. Do you have a trusted local jeweller?

PS I also enjoy wearing my eternity on other fingers, an option that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. Jean Wang @extrapetite on Instagram wears an eternity on her pointer finger sometimes and I think it looks so chic!

Have you tried this ring on other fingers?

Oh and last question - do you know what size the stones are? I’m planning an eternity for later this year to mark a big birthday :)

Assuming there is a refund policy, would it be safe to mail back the ring to the jeweler in your husband's country of origin?

The ring looks quite a bit bigger than what would be a comfortable and secure fit on your finger, and IMHO it makes more sense to buy the eternity in the right size, rather than jerry-rig a too-big eternity ring.

Just my 2 cents.

Thank you so much for your post @kipari ! My DH thought the same thing and that's why he decided to buy the ring even though it was bigger than my size. Truly, it makes sense to get this kind of ring bigger if you don't plan on upgrading in the future (and I certainly don't wish to upgrade). Being stuck with a beautiful ring that doesn't fit and can't be resized to a bigger size is definitely a worse problem to have than the one that I'm dealing with right now!

Thank you for your thoughts @marymm ! Unfortunately there is no way that I can send the ring back and ask for a refund. At the same time, I wouldn't want to return it, because it has great sentimental value for me, due to the fact that DH chose it himself. During the last ten years I've been on an ER upgrading saga and even though I ended up getting exactly what I wanted, I realized that my rings lacked the sentimental value that I would have wished they had, because DH was not involved in all those projects.
This new ring encompasses all the important things that really matter to me and I HAVE to make it work!!!!!

honestly, I'd do the sizing bead option. Also, I'm not sure if it is winter or summer where you are, but if it is winter, and your fingers swell at all in the heat, it may not be quite a big as you think during warmer weather. I have the plastic spiral things that I've put on a few rings, but not on an eternity band. They do work, but I think the beads are a better option for an eternity. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the spiral things if there are other options.

Hello @diamondyes ! The size of the diamonds is .05ct and there are 23 diamonds in total. The ring has a great presence due to the setting, which accentuates the size of the diamonds while at the same time protecting them from accidents!!

Yes @Lookinagain, I'd rather get the sizing beads too. I already texted my jeweler back at home and sent him photos of the ring and I'm waiting for his reply on the sizing beads idea.
Also, yes, it is winter where I am right now and my fingers definitely swell during the summer.

Don't fret! A good jeweler/goldsmith will give you a few options. You can do beads, you could have a short bar fashioned, or you could have bars shaped to the rails of your ring placed. There are things!

If it several sizes too big I vote for wearing it on a different finger. But it sounds like the spiral thingies might be the way to go.

it's a really beautiful ring:kiss2::kiss2::kiss2::appl::appl::appl::kiss2::kiss2::kiss2:
i have faith that somehow this will all turn out ok and you will be wearing it safely in no time =)2

Approximately $750 to reset just a bad thought

I second the comment about winter fingers vs. summer fingers, I definitely notice a difference in how my rings fit tighter when it is hot and humid.
Also, if you have smaller fingers/larger knuckles (like I do) you may find that wider bands fit a bit tighter over the knuckles than thinner bands. As in, you might not want the wider eternity in the same size at your narrower one.
I hope your jeweler can make this workable for you. It is a gorgeous ring and looks lovely on your finger!

Alright, alright! I knew there was a fix!

Hooray! How does it feel?

It is very comfortable and I don't feel anything when I wear it! Which is exactly what my jeweler promised, when he tried to talk me out of the sizing beads that I initially asked from him!!! He said: "No, no sizing beads! They can be uncomfortable! I have a better method in mind!!!"
