There may be a handful of people disappointed by this news - and even I myself feel a little like the end of an era - but I’ve made the decision to reset my engagement solitaire into a set of studs.
I don’t really wear her - and when I do I feel it looks quite small on my finger. I have no less than 10 other rings i rotate in as an “engagement ring “ let alone the stacks I often sport instead of an e-ring set. It’s just not reasonable to leave it as is.
Now grace is a remarkable stone. The faceting is (if I don’t sound like I’m bragging) hard to duplicate and you know I’m not going to pay someone to source it. (If you know me at all)
So I figured I would just snap one up if it ever came across my path and well don’t you know it one did.
Color, size, faceting all a fantastic match. She is a skoch larger but negligible and will not be a problem on the ear.
I have tried my hand at studs a few times. First at 5.9mm and while I was excited to have studs- they felt small. And looking to small somehow looked worse than none at all- so I sold them to find one of my rings (guys let me tell you I have a lot). Next was 6.5 lab studs and while the size was better, the lab aspect was not mind clean for me- and I mean they still weren’t my Goldilocks size.
These will be 7.4/7.6 mm
I tried on 3cts (who knows the size exactly) at a B&M and I finally felt they had the just right size.
Here are the examples below.
I was also really surprised by how much the martini studs appealed to me. I love a good prong (or 20) but the 3 prong just felt like I had diamonds floating on my face. Yes I think they’re a bit utilitarian and an antique 8 prong would be more attractive when I am not wearing them but I am not look at them in my hand- and I really had to get that through my head. I’m one to love a good custom setting but at the end of the day that desire to custom make something doesn’t make sense.
I’ve asked for jumbo backs that will be probably my day to day (I work from home) but I’ll probably get some locking backs too so I’m not so anxiety ridden when I leave home.
Now if any of you would like to see the many other rings combinations I wear as a wedding set I suppose you could twist my arm
