Hi everyone!

I''m trying to find a pair of winter boots and am having a tough time!! I live in Toronto, where it tends to snow once in a while

, so they need to be useable in the snow, however I walk to work and have to dress well, and don''t want to look too casual in traditional winter boots/uggs/etc.

Any suggestions?

I was thinking something with a bit of a wedge heel so that my pants don''t totally drag, but haven''t found any.

Grr..it was much easier living in the burbs where I drove everywhere!!

Thanks!

Here are some ideas...

If you go to Nordstrom''s website and head to the Boots section under the Shoes area, select ''Weather Proof'' to see a bunch of boot options.

Hope this helps!

OOhhh I like the first one!! I think tall is better since I am hoping to still wear my skirt suits in the winter. This whole walking to work in the cold makes my wardrobe difficult!!

Thanks Aprilcait!

Wedge, tall, waterproof, cute...

La Canadienne

Aquatalia

Are you looking for black or brown? Even if you''re looking for black, view the Aquatalia in brown to see the details because they don''t show up in the pic of the black.

I love those Aquatalia ones!! They may be out of my price range since everything is STILL more expensive in Canada, but they sell them at a store near me so maybe I''ll check them out!

Thanks Sera!

October, this might seem like a strange question, but do you bring different shoes to change into when you get to work?

I'm moving to Calgary in a week and I'll be taking the train from the suburbs to my office downtown (no way am I paying for parking!!). I'm used to walking to work since I've lived in NYC for the past 3 years, but I'm afraid of freezing to death! I've also been warned about the amount of nasty slush they have in the winter and I don't want my pants to be getting all nasty and salt-stained. But mostly I'm concerned about staying warm!

Any suggestions?

ETA: THANK YOU for confirming that stuff is more in Canada. FI thinks I'm crazy for wanting to buy stuff before we move, but I told him the same thing! Stuff is more expensive up there, and living in Calgary requires some additional items of clothing and shoes than NYC does!!!

YES YES YES everything is more expensive here!!! I am far to savvy on the web - everytime I shop I come home to check the US price before I buy. It is so frustrating! For example, a duvet cover I want at Linen N'' Things is 269 here and only 149 in the states!!! And with the dollar? So annoying!

Anyways, yes. I leave all of my heels at work under my desk (it is like a shoe graveyard!) and change when I get there. Even in the summer - I walk in my flats and change at work. Can''t be bothered lugging my shoes back and forth or killing my feet.

Here are the boots I bought:

http://www.lacanadienne.ca/product_details.php?cat=fallwinter2007&product=dorina (but in black). So far so good! They are super comfy, waterproof, and warm!

I don''t think I could stand in snow for hours in them, but for walking back and forth to work they are perfect! I feel warm enough in my skirts and I tuck my pants in if it is slushy/snowy and I think they still look good! How far will you walk to work in Calgary?

Calgary is much snowier than Toronto though - I think when the weather is bad there people aren''t so concerned about style - they just bundle up and stay warm!! It is actually much better - in Toronto we all try to stay stylish and pretend that we aren''t freezing our butts off!!!

If you have any other questions, let me know!!!

I''ve seen those boots here in NYC!! They are super cute, I was thinking I wanted a wedge but now that I think about it, that heel might actually be better because it would cut into the snow rather than just the flat surface of the wedge on top of the snow, and possibly sliding and slipping. Have you worn them in snow yet?

I won''t have to walk too far, but I''ll be walking through the snowy parking lot from my car to the train, and then from the train station to my office. They do have these great enclosed walkways that are about 2 stories above the sidewalk, so maybe I won''t have to walk through as much snow as I think.

I''m really getting nervous to move...

I was thinking wedge too (see first post) but I found them all to be too clunky on - I wanted something a tad more delicate or something. I don''t have tiny feet or anything so I needed something that made them not stand out!

I''ve used them in the snow and so far so good! They do get some salt stains on them, but they brush right off.

Don''t be nervous to move! Calgary is beautiful!!! It is absolutely gorgeous with a beautiful CLEAN city with the view of the Rockies behind it! PLUS you get the Stampede!!! Calgary is also doing very very well these days so you just can''t go wrong!
My FI and I went out west for a road trip last summer and went between Calgary and Vancouver, and oh my god it was beautiful!! You will love it!!

I agree with the La Canadienne boots. I got 2 pairs of the shorter boots last year that I absolutely love. They are indeed waterproof and warm. I love that look reasonably dressy but keep my feet dry & warm. I''d really like a leather tall boot from La Canadienne but they pretty much only did suede this year. The lower curved heal like the Dorina is super comfortable.

Try them at Zappos because if you don''t like them you can easily send them back. They run very true to size for me.

Good luck!
