I am going to have this stone replaced with another cab. If you could give me some suggestions on what other stone would go well with the pink and lighter red (in light) I'd really appreciate it!OPAL TRIPLET.jpg

I like the current colour combination and would stick with dark blue green, blue or green.

First, you're beautiful. Now that we've gotten that out of the way... what a lovely semi-mount! I assume that's an opal triplet? How large is the cab? Depending on how the ring is made, you may or may not be able to replace it with a faceted stone (that has a pavilion). It may need to be another cab. Also, if it's large, that may affect what I recommend for a replacement. In other words, I'd love to suggest a blue or teal sapphire, but if the semi-mount holds a 12x10mm center stone, that could mean a lot of $$$. So I look forward to hearing a little more about this piece! :)

Fellow cab fan here. Cost- and color-wise, I'd say rubellite. A dusty rose quartz? I know it is not as contrasty as a blue or green but I think the present contrast is too much to the point of being mismatched. Maybe a lovely pale- to medium-green (non-ideal-color) emerald which should be much cleaner and more affordable than a "top" emerald -- plus I like the sweet color even better.

Well thank you for the kind words! This 59 year YOUNG me really appreciates you.

Yes....it is an opal triplet and has been damaged....not in that photo, but after. You're correct, it is quite a large triplet and my jeweler told me that whatever replaces it has to be another cab. Now, if any one has any suggestions where we can find one I can get the stone measurements from him and he or I could source another triplet. I wouldn't be against another opal triplet, but since it has to be changed I was wondering about other options. Everything that has caught my eye has been $$$$ because that's what kind of eye I have! LOL!! I was even wondering about something green!! A light glowing green......

I took a look at the color wheel and green is the opposite of pink so that's what I'm leaning toward.....even a green with a hint of blue in it. I did think about a rubellite so us being on the same page makes me feel like I'm on the right track. Underneath the setting there is the silhouette of what looks to be an eagle or phoenix. I bought the ring because of it being unusual for having that. No one knows why but it sure is unusual. phoenix.jpg

Thank you for your thoughts....those are my favorite colors. I wouldn't change it but the triplet has been damaged....an accident on my part, and while it's being changed I decided to try something different.

I love the idea of tourmaline, or even a Welo opal. Do you prefer it to be a natural? If you were open to a lab, a nice big pastel sapphire would look great too! I don't know if the bird is a maker's mark but I would want it for that as well. It's a beautiful secret touch.

I have seen inexpensive tourmaline cabs, so that would be my choice. The bird on the underside is spectacular!

I stopped by the jeweler's store and got the size....10 x 12 oval cab. Now.....you all have given me some excellent ideas and when he gets it finished, I will be happy to post the new look.

i do feel quite distraught that the triplet got damaged
it is a show stopper of a ring

best to look at all options if the new reincrantion is going to be as beautiful as it was before the damage

To be honest with you, you are quite right, the opal triplet really was nice and that's why I'm on the hunt for another one.

The bird underneath will be a mystery for the ages....it is even detailed, though you can't see it in that photo. When I get it back I'll post a better photo. It really did pop against the black under the triplet.

Rubellite's and emeralds are wonderful ideas.....especially emeralds with that pink!!

I just googled pink cabochon, 12X10 oval and found a few. Opal, pink chalcedony, pink/rose quartz, morganite cab.

Can't wait to see what you get!

Or I think a pearl or mother of pearl cabochon, pink or white, would be pretty too.

ETA: It looks like there's also a light pink shade of rhodochrosite.

This one would look cool in that ring.

If you're open to something unusual, I think a really nice labradorite cab would look great in that setting.

Be careful with smoked black Welo Opal. Not a stability issue, but many look nice in their videos and in person the color is very dim. With that said, there are some exceptionally vivid smoked Welo Opals out there. I'm on the fence about this one.

An aquamarine or chrysoprase cab! I love the bird! Wow

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and links to some beautiful ideas! I'm going back with an opal cab....there's just something about the colors. I'll post a photo after my jeweler is done!!

Here's a clearer photo of the new triplet and the bird under the stone....It was delivered to our other home and my son opened the package for me. Looks like I went from blue/green to green/blue. Next stop...my jeweler.69281389156__7AF7926C-7F15-42CE-97A0-957CD05D7699.jpg
