Hello everyone,

I am wondering, for a 5ct sapphire, is a 1mm surface reaching fissure in the pavillion considered an acceptable flaw? The dimensions are approx. 11*8*7.

Thanks for your input!

I'd prefer it without but if the price is right and the colour is top notch, I'd accept it. Can you see this inclusion with the naked eye? Is it close to the culet, girdle or someplace in between?

Hi Chrono,

Thanks so much for your reply. According to the vendor, "the surface reaching fissure is located exactly in between the girdle and the culet in the pavilion of the stone and it is not very deep. It has faint orange staining of iron oxide. The fissure is very tiny and it cannot be seen easily without magnification. It can be seen only if you observe extremely closely and at a particular angle when light reflects off it. It is not prominent. It cannot be seen in the side picture, because it is seen only when light falls on it at a certain angle. Because it is extremely small (penetrating only about 1 mm from the surface inwards). In no way does it affect the durability of this stone."

Here are some photos...

Given the description and the photos, I would not be concerned with the inclusion / fissure. The location is safe and very miniscule. The stain looks fairly large in that one photograph but I think it is still acceptable.

It would be remiss of me to not to caution you about the colour of this sapphire though. It is extremely dark and may black out indoors.

Ditto this.

I am sorry but my iPhone is unable to load the video.

Thanks. What I don't understand is why the stone looks like mush internally? I cannot make out a single facet pattern. I also believe strong lighting has been used so if you like this colour, you might want to wear this only where there is strong lights around otherwise it will be very dark the rest of the time. I saw little to no sparkle except for when the pavilion is facing the camera but that part will be hidden by the setting.

Yeah. agreed. will take a pass on that one too. thanks!
