So my girl...my Lexus RX350..is getting totalled. UGH. I love the car but it's a nice payment and I'm not sure I want to spend that again. I looked all around today...The Nissan Murano did not impress me for the price....The cheapest Land Rover LR2 was AWESOME on the inside, plastic on the outside and reviews are VERY VERY mixed but the price was great with service included.....I got a great deal on the Volvo XC90 which is really nice and more expensive then the Lexus but a lower payment b/c of dealer incentives...

I guess my real question is does anyone have a Land Rover LR2 HSE/ it's the base one b/c the others and the Range Rover are waaaayyy more than I can spend.....? Anyone have the Volvo? Ugh.

My other question= I'm moving to North Carolina in about 3 weeks...But I only have a rental for one more week....Is it really going to be that much cheaper to do this down south than on Long Island?

Thanks!

Gosh I wish my son was awake, he''s the car expert. I''m thinking if you''re moving in 3 weeks, I''d negotiate a deal down south with the dealer that will be providing you with service etc... Best of luck with your move, I bet you are very excited!!!! You are going there in time to miss all our bad weather..... I knew you were a smart lady!!!

I have the LR3 HSE, which is the top end of the model and I added everything you could, tv''s in the headrests, wood on the dash, satellite radio, running boards, metal sill plates, etc. We paid close to 60,000 out the door. My husband has a Range Rover which only has two rows so it did not work for me. And I had the Infiniti QX56 and the largest Lexus, and did not want the Escalade ESV (would not fit in my garage) or the Lincoln Navigator, though I liked them, I had heard not great things. The largest new Mercedes SUV was not out at the time, and my husband shies away from buying the first model production year of any car, so that would have been out. Overall I really do like mine. Our dealer gives out loaners and even drives the loaner to me, picks up my car, does the work, details it and gases it up (I pay for that but still, very convenient) and one the whole I am happy.

MMM

My husbands secretary had a Volvo. Never again! You might investigate the cost for
some of the simplest things. From what she told me, it was highway robbery and took forever.
She sold it and bought a loaded Tahoe, which uses regular gas.
Have you looked at the Mazda 9 series, I''ve heard good things about it. Though I wouldn''t classify it as a luxury vehicle like the LR or Lexus. Good luck!

Thanks guys....I appreciate it....I''m very torn right now...

ALso, I''d LOVE to lease it down south but I need to get around for 3 more weeks and need a SUV to move us and the cats.... Argh!

I''m personally a foreign car person, but I''m in love with the new hybrid Chevy Tahoe. But if I''m not mistaken, Lexus is having the December to Remember sales event. Also, Infiniti is also having a winter sales event. I test drove a FX 35 and I loved it. I also test drove the Murano, and as someone who drives a Lexus, I thought it was fine. But, I will admit that I''m not picky and I don''t really care about the bells and whistles, with the exception of a navigation system because I''m not from Philadelphia and a year and a half later, I''m still learning my way around.

I have to say as an avid Suze Orman watcher/reader, do not lease a car.

The Volvo is nice, but be sure to check out the ConsumerReports reviews on it as well as Edmunds.com...

I have been driving my Chevy Trailblazer LT for over 2 years now, never had a problem. For a domestic vehicle, it has certainly held up well. It''s a midsize SUV that has great towing capacity if you need it, tons of options (I have leather int. heated seats, navi system, DVD, power everything, rng. brds, lug. rack, etc.) for under $40k. It''s very lux without the lux price, imo. I think the only detail/option I''m missing is Ipod capability.

Nice. I wrote a whole reply and it got deleted!!!! UGH!

Bottom line...I''ll check um out ladies! Thanks!
And I also warch Suze and will still always and forever lease my cars!

OK, first off, you say ''totalled''? As in crashed??? Are you allright??? Since you are posting I''m assuming you are. What happened?

I love the Lexus RX. I''m considering it for my next car, though, with 3 kids I''m not sure if I can live w/o my 3rd row. Have you looked at the BMW X3? DH loves those. It''s a contender for us, too. What about the Acura RDX or MDX?

I''ve heard mixed things about Land Rover. Service is fab, of course. My neighbor has leased one and is having trouble getting out of it because the resale is terrible for that car brand. Also, according to Consumer Reports, their reliablility rating is low...As in, down there with Mercedes. That said, they are very cool cars.

I liked the Volvo, but, there are a lot of other SUVs at that price point I like better.

Happy car hunting!

Ooops! it was flood damage :) But thanks so much for caring! :)

The RX will definitely be too small for 3 kids. But otherwise, it''s a dream. Cramped back there which is not a concern for me....

The MDX was really nice. A lot nicer than I thought. And more expensive than I thought!

E/t the Volvo is the most expensive of the cars I looked at, the price was the cheapest! I couldn''t believe the deal....so that''s why I''m leaning toward it. It was also a really nice ride...

Thanks so much!

i have owned four volvos. i would buy another one. if a great deal was offered i would consider that a no brainer. good luck!

Good to hear it! Thanks!
BTW< I meant the sUV C90....not the XC70 wagon...I guess getting the model right is the first step Hahaha

Can you rent an SUV/van for the move so you can buy/lease your new car down here? I agree it would be nice for any service issues to have an established relationship with a local dealer. Does your DH have a car you could share for the next few weeks?

My mom just got rid of her Volvo. It was a lemon. I think the quality is not the same as they used to be. I am pretty sure Buick owns them now, right?

last i knew it was ford.

Yup! It''s Ford...I test drive a GMC Acadia and it was fabulous!!! BUT b/c it''s new the residual is sooo low and the price is crazy! No, it''s our only car as we live in Queens and hubby works in NYC....for now :) I think it will be the volvo but I want to see the VW Toureg (spelling?) :) Thanks to all!

oh, ok! I knew they were bought out by an american company.

So I got the Volvo and it is awesome! I do miss a couple things about the Lexus that the Volvo doesn''t have...but all in all, it''s great! Thanks for the input.....

SOOOO, she''s getting a work out...We''re are off to NC....the movers come tomorrow...Wish me luck with the beasts!!

yeah for the new volvo! i hope you have a great trip and that you love your new home.

Good luck MMM! Remeber the house pics once you get decorating!!!!!!!! I love your style!

Nice choice with the Volvo. 2 of my neighbors have them and love them!

Great choice -- it''s the one I was going to vote for. Not only are they great cars but they have a more refined feel than the others you mentioned. Enjoy!
