The BF and I both badly need a vacation, but are just too tired and busy to plan one. I would say our daily pressure level and stress are at lifetime highs. I think his spring break is the last week of March, possibly the third week. We are in the LA/OC area. We're both extremely frugal people but I asked him to make this vacation our joint birthday present to each other, so we are probably willing to spend about $1K total. I'm taking any and all suggestions, with relaxation being high on the list of priorities.

What about Vegas? It's always a great inexpensive way to vacation...lots of good food, etc., and you don't even have to rent a car there. We don't even really gamble, but love to go to Vegas and wander around and kick back.

I would check Expedia and those sites for the packages deals they have last minute. I checked just now (from my own airport) and they are booking March 24-28 as 'last minute deals', many were $500 or under each for flight and hotel.

We just got back from Vegas and it was a lot of fun. It was cheap to get there and stay, but we found the amusements we wanted to participate in expensive. That said, if you go and have any interest at all- do the Richard Petty Driving Experience out at the racetrack- it was awesome!

Carmel, Big Sur, Santa Cruz, or SF. All are really close by to you, and you could get an AirBnB instead of a hotel esp. in Satna Cruz and Big Sur (sometimes cheaper than a hotel).

What do you enjoy doing for relaxation? I ask because everyone's idea of what is relaxing and rejuvenating is different. For example I love doing something active as that relaxes me especially when I am stressed. Activities like hiking, biking etc. But I know some enjoy pampering and find that super relaxing. If you and your bf are the latter how about a local spa destination (so that minimizes travel expenses and travel related stress) if you can make it work with your budget. Somewhere with a sauna, pool, yoga, pilates, massages etc and where you can get pampered. And time for romance too.

Sometimes there are amazing local places that you wouldn't normally consider because it is so close by but something to think about. Hope you and your bf find the perfect getaway Julie. :appl:

Santa Barbara and stay at Bacara resort and spa. You can also go to napa valley and do some wine tasting if you're into wines. If you're into small beach towns, try Pismo Beach or Cambria.
