Hi everyone. I''m new here. I''ve been lurking for quite awhile, coveting the beautiful stones and jewelry you all post. What a gem lovers dream! Anyway, I''m curious if anyone knows how much clarity can effect the value of a tanzanite. I know all about the 4 c''s and that Tanzanite is a type 1 stone, but if tanz. has a nice dark color but a visible inclusion, should it not be purchased? I bought one, 2.18 ct., for about $100 and I knew about the clarity issue. The cut is not the greatest either but I love the color. I think if it were set the inclusion wouldn''t even show. At this time I can''t afford darker tanzanites over 2 cts. Did I waste my $? I''m still very new to gem buying so am used to making unwise decisions. I get so caught-up sometimes and tend to be a bit impulsive. I certainly didn''t buy it as an investment or anything, basically just for the color and size. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome!

I don''t know much about how Tanzanite should look. I just know if it''s pretty and sparkles and is the right price for me I buy it.

I do own a Tanzanite ring myself and love it.

I''ll bump the thread, I''m sure someone else here can better help you.

That''s a very low price, so I don''t see a problem at all if you like the stone!

I have absolutely no expertise, but to me the most important factor in buying a stone is that you love it. So if you love this one, who cares if it''s not "perfect"? It''s yours!!

Keep in mind too that the average person glancing at your ring on your finger is not nearly as educated as most Pricescope users. I''m sure people will just be totally wowed by the color and size, and they won''t be looking for some tiny inclusion!

Just my two cents...

$100 is nothing for a 2 ct. tanzanite, so I think you did good for your investment.

Sounds VERY cheap, maybe TOO cheap (?) for any large Tanzanite of that dark rich color (I assume?)

Tanzies are generally considered a stone which can be found without inclusions.

OTOH, maybe the inclusion is a GOOD thing, because it shows that it''s the real deal and not a fake!!

Do you have a photo??

The stone sounds like a bargain, but that is dependent on the inclusion(s) in it.

If it is near the edge of the stone, it may be a setter''s nightmare, and it may require quite a bit of cost to set it.

Check with either a gemologist, or the setter ( or both) himself to get an opinion on how safe this stone is to set. Also find out if it doesn chip, break, or otherwise get damaged in setting it what responsibility is the setter assuming or how much risk are you assuming.

Thanks everyone! I don''t know how to post a picture. I''ll try to figure it out. I''d like to post some pics of my rings on the ring thread. In case anyone is interested, I won the Tanzanite on ebay from gemshake.

I know, ebay is a big risk but I just could not resist.
