We only have two days of exams left (Tuesday and Wednesday of this week) and then we''re done! We start back August 11th, so don''t get too jealous of our early out . . .

FI and I are moving in to our new home this Friday the 30th, then I''m chaperoning a student trip to Greece from June 5 - 17 (49 students and 6 teachers), then FI and I are marrying on July 4th and honeymooning in St. John July 7 - 17.

Then, of course, I''m going to spend my last few weeks of summer prepping for the fall. I''m teaching American lit for the first time next year so I am extremely excited, since I did all of my honors work on American lit in undergrad.

Anyway, what are your big plans for the summer? Anyone planning on learning a new skill? Language? Traveling? Heavy drinking to recover from the school year?

1. Get married! (again...long story)
2. Read
3. Read
4. Read
5. Visit family
6. Renovate new house
7. Pack and move
8. Read
9. Organize teaching resources and lessons
10. Get ready to go back to work

Haven, it sounds like our summers are going to be pretty similar, what with weddings and moving and all!

Ah...only 17 actual school days left. Summer is so close I can taste it!

We are finished (aside from planning). Yet, in a moment of weakness, I agreed to teach summer school, so I am going to start up another count down for myself til the "last day." Of course, at our school, summer school is only for those who did not meet the standards on the gov''t mandated test, and so they must retake it in order to be promoted to the 9th grade. I will be doing instruction for the reading portion, and will probably only have about 10 students or fewer. The whole summer session only lasts 13 days for a few hours each day (including a planning day and 2 days to administer the test), so I figure that isn''t too bad.
Aside from that I plan on:
1. getting my home decorated just so (We''ve been here nearly a year and it still isn''t the way I imagined. By the time I get it the way I want it, we''ll probably be moving). I was in a similar situation as you ladies are in. I got married and moved during summer break last year. It was nuts!
2. Reading "big girl books" no juvi. lit allowed.
3. Working out
4. Seeing my friends who I tend to accidentally neglect during the school year
5. Attending several weddings
6. Vacationing in Washington DC (to visit family)
7. Investigating potential schools for earning my specialist degree. (hopefully in Media. I would just LOVE to be a Media Specialist and run a library all day)
8. Going for a quick trip to the lake.
9. Shopping!
10. And of course preparing for the upcoming year. It shouldn''t be too bad. I will be starting my 4th year teaching the same subjects and grade level I have been teaching the entire time I''ve been employed with my school. I mostly need to do some revamping, but other than that, I''m organized and ready to go for once. I almost think I won''t have to bring much home at all next year (FINALLY after 3 years of being lost under heaps of teacher "home work")

I hope you guys have a wonderful summer. I am sneaking in here to tell you that our Nan has become a substitute teacher. She wanted this for a while, and went for it.

The kids she has taught run the whole gamut, elementary, Montessori, and middle school. I think High school will soon be on her list soon.

Bless you all, I well remember the teachers that made a difference in my life. May you have a wonderful summer off, refuel , get energized, have wonderful experiences that transform you.....

Lisa

Thanks, Kaleigh, that was so nice!

Fancy--Summer school! I taught summer school for the last four summers so I figured my wedding was a good excuse to get out of it this summer. I actually always end up loving summer school because it''s so different, so I hope you have a good time!

Fata--Married again? Well, that''s certainly call for a celebration!

Have a great summer, ladies!

I'm not an official teacher yet, but I think student teaching while finishing up my master's qualifies me to reply....I'm working in an ASD classroom as an aide and getting a second part time job to work towards paying off my student loans. I have no other plans. I am going to take a world history and U.S. history class in the fall, but I need a break from school.

Oh, and drinking heavily to cope with the fact that I have no vacation plans other than working.

I know for many teachers summer is not really a "break" in totality, so do try to have some time for yourselves...

Lisa, you and Caroline are sweet to stop in here and say such sweet things!

I have a beach trip and two shorter mountain trips planned. Plus I''ll go visit my family at least once. In between, there are two little boys who I will tutor in reading twice a week. I hope to meet up with Tacori in Chalotte sometime, and I need to do some fun things with my 12 year old before she thinks she is too old to hang out with mom! I hope to read some, too. Oh, and we need to do some redecorating...new kitchen countertops and that kind of thing. I dread messing with that!

6. Go to my friend''s pool as often as possible
7. Relax as much as possible

Oooh, we have two hopefuls looking for an engagement this summer, I can''t wait to hear those stories!

I''m going to read a whole lot, too--the irony is that I''m an English teacher yet I have zero time to read for myself during the school year.

Blair--I''m in Chicago, too! Go Cubbies!
