MDJ,

Is this the camera you bought? If it is, the hubby and I are going to buy one too. I looked everywhere else and they were 499.99. Do we need to order anything else with it?

Linda
Yes, this is the one. Do you have a reader? Newegg also has reader/writers ... see above link that storm posted.

This price is cheaper than what I got mine for ... I thought mine was a great buy ... this new price is just "more" great!

MDJ,

Yes, we need a reader/writer. I forgot what it came with, but it came with a combo pack also. I can''t believe the prices. I checked Best Buy, Circuit City and even QVC last week and they were all about 500.00.

I read this post this afternoon and the husband and I almost fell out of our chairs. Whoo Hoo.

Again, Pricescope is wonderful for helping out members.

Linda My hubby said we will both have to go back to school, to learn how to use it. ha ha ha ha.

Hi DS ~

I would think it would be "good" just as long as you know that this particular reader ... looks like it will only read two types of memory cards. Looks like it will read a "SD" & "MMC" types cards.

I know that different peripherals use different kinds of memory cards/sticks. So you if you are only going to use a reader, or a reader/writer for your camera, make sure that your camera''s memory card will fit this item.

I know that my camera''s memory card is different from Ipod, MP3, and cam corders that my whole family has, so I got the one reader/writer that can support and read many different memory cards at the same time.

It will support many different memory sticks, many different magic gates, multimedia''s, SD, different compact flash''s, usb, Micro drives, and smart media.

I hope this helps.

Yes, I am a little intimidated by my new camera, however, it does come with several manuals, and a disc. I am sure that it will require some patience!

If you have ever played around with a 35mm, and done some experimenting with the older type SLR''s ... you won''t be lost!

It reminds me alot of a SLR ... same kind of shape, and similar terminology ... it''s just digital now. This digital part is the "new" thing for me ... so it''s just learning and experimentation at it''s finest!

I am just sooo amazed at what this little thing is capable of!

When you get it, just go over the basic section and practice with the basic''s first.

I was pretty dang nervous, but I managed to figure out how to finally get super macro. Litteraly in this mode you can put the lens directly on a piece of paper with print on it, and it will focus! Amazing!

I put the dial on "C" for custom, then pressed the "flower" button on the side, press the flower button twice rather fast, it will say hold for super macro on the LED screen ... immediately hold the flower button again until the flower sign comes up and you see the super macro flower go up to the top of the led screen ... litteraly take a business card hold up to lens and half press the shoot button, it will auto focus it, press all the way once you have the green square box ... and voila!

Have a great day!

Storm, if you are still around, is this reader any good? It''s the same brand but a different model.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00083Y4HO/sr=1-2/qid=1156651225/ref=pd_bbs_2/104-7364555-5256759?ie=UTF8&s=electronics
should work fine for a mobile setup with a laptop but for a desktop id get one of the full size multi-format readers.
Doggone, Storm! I don''t know what a "full size multi-format reader" is! Does it stay plugged into the desktop all the time? Is the one Mrs DJ one of these?

I need a course in all this!

Hi DS ~

I have mine, and I thought it was going to be huge ... however, the one that Storm listed ... I did end up getting, and it''s only about 4"L x 2"W x 1/2"tall.

I have a mini calculator that is bigger!

I have finally got the hang of actually understanding how this thing works. It''s quite simple once you get it. I have mine plugged in ... haven''t unpluged it from the computer. When I want, I just take out the camera''s memory card and slip it in the slot it''s supposed to go in, and go to my computer, click on my H drive, and the the program file pops up, click on it, then it reads "canon" and I click on it ... and all my pics that I took are on it! I then can look and decide if I want to keep them or photoshop them at that point.

The one thing I am totaly amazed at, (Thanks Storm) is that you really "don''t" waste your batteries on having your camera do the work, and also ... the wear and tear on the camera motor is next to "nil"!

I went and bought extra hi cap batteries ... and I haven''t needed to change them and I have been snapping lots of pic''s today ... and of course deleting lots of oppsies ... but the computer and reader/writer have been doing the major work, not the camera or the batteries!

YAY!

I am thouroughly happy with the product that Storm rec''d thru newegg.com! I thought the price was very good too! So far, I have had a positive experience with them. I think my reader/writer was only $18 & free shipping.

Have a great week!
