I must say he is a lot cuter than even some dogs out there...I''m thinking of those rat-like dogs...

Almost like a mini-kangaroo!! He''s very cute, I think.

Not as cute as my dog, though

It's a cousin to the guinea pig called a Cavy. I guess it's from Argentina if that's what the video said. It's south american nevertheless. Reminds of the capebera's a bit but those are much more like giant guinea pigs.

I think taking care of an 'exotic' animal like that would be a pain unless you had some room for it somehow. I'm sure someone owns it, they should just find the owner. If not I would probably want to keep it but I can forsee the issues already!

I think I''ve seen those at the zoo before...totally cute! But no, I wouldn''t want to keep one... I have a bit of an issue with non-domesticated animals being kept as exotic pets.

Me three!!!! He is adorable!

He is definitely adorably cute! But no, I wouldn''t let my kids keep it since I assume it''s not a domestic animal.

Cute, yes. A pet, I don''t think so. Anything that can "run 35mph" is not pet material if it can''t be trained. I''d rather see it sent to a wildlife rehabilitation centre or something, where it would have lots of room to run.

I guess I''m the only one who doesn''t think it''s cute...?

I wouldn''t say it''s ugly or disgusting (just odd, maybe), but it looks sort of like a cross between a rabbit and a stray dog who''s in bad shape. While I love both of those animals on their own merits, as a hybrid, not so much.

If I had kids, would I let them keep it...? Probably not. I prefer to stick to cats and dogs as far as pets go.

I'm changing my vote on keeping it to 'it depends' on if it could go to somewhere with other capys and if I could properly care for it. An emotionally sensitive, socially needy, 100lb non-domesticated critter who needs a pool to swim in seems a bit challenging as a pet. But very cute. I think that if it came into my life, and I couldn't find another good wildlife placement, then I'd keep it if I could spoil it and make it a member of the family.

That must be a baby if they get to 100lbs!

ETA: opps, never mind. I misspelled when googling and got info on capy not cavy. That looks like a mara cavy which only get to be 30 lbs. If monster dog didn't try to terrorize it, I'd keep it!

aww he''s beautiful. So cute.

They're lovely! They have loads in the zoo near where my parents live.

That one looks pretty much fully grown.

The real name for the animal is a 'Mara' - they're the 4th largest rodent in the world. They live about 15 years, eat grass and pair for life.

They do make quite good pets apparently, if you get them from when they are babies. I'd definitely keep one - instant lawnmower!

I'd get it a friend though!

Yes, apparently they are pretty domesticable, since basically they''re giant guinea pigs. I think it''s cute!

I think he is cute! I wouldn''t want to keep him though.

Love him, he is adorable!

And I would let my kids keep it if #1 we couldn''t find the owners AND there was no wildlife sanctuary to send it to (so thus, it would otherwise be homeless) and #2 if my kids were responsible pet owners.

But then again you are talking to a girl who already has 2 dogs and a cat, all rescued.

Live from FI''s bedroom!

(end of video)

ME : It''s UGly..

FI : He is keeyuuutee!! Let''s get one!

I do love the way he jumps / hovels around though. Definitely cute in that respect, but just not a fan of the dirty fur hanging from his belly!

I think its cute.. kind of like a dog/kangaroo/deer looking thing.]

I''d keep it and try not to get arrested (they''re illegal here).

I couldn't figure out for the life of me why that creature looked SO familiar - and then last night I was flipping through honeymoon pictures, and there it was - we saw one in the nature reserve in Barbados! When I go home this evening, I'll see if I can unearth the photo from my hard drive...they're really adorable, but WEIRD looking! DH and I kept on calling them "Mr. Tumnus" because they look like a mixture of two or three animals.

i don''t know - it is kind of freaky looking. i thought at first that it was the result of a genetic experiment gone bad and that the mad scientist let loose into the wild. but i guess it is a actual species.

i like the mr. tummus reference! totally can see that!

Cool! I had three guinea pigs when I was a kid and I remember reading about maras/cavys in a guinea pig book. I hope it gets returned to its owner if it is indeed someone''s pet.

The owner came forward. His parents were keeping it for him and it got away. He is a year old and has been raised by his owner since he was born. He was really excited to have his cavey back.

Aww..that''s great - glad to hear a happy ending!

Maybe the teens could babysit it from now on...

Awe! He is so cute! I am glad they found his owner. That''s good news.

I think if it were me and I couldn''t find the owner, I''d keep it for sure provided I had to proper space and information about caring for it AND provided that my dog was willing to get along with it.

he is cute in a photo, but in real life he''s kind of weird. My BF''s friends have a petting zoo and this is one of the creatures they have. We were over at their house one night watching a movie. THis fellow roamed the house freely and he freaked me out. Its like acat/rabbit and it was fast. THey have lots of animals that run around and I really don''t like going to their house. THey have a monkey like the one Ross had on Friends, brids, reptiles, etc and outside they have llamas, goats, and a bunch of other random animals. They do a silly amount of work during the x-mas season for nativity scenes. I am not sure who would request this part rodent/cat/rabbit guy though.

I think that it is cute, but dirty looking - like it needs a bath. But, seeing as to how I have a chinchilla, a hedgehog, and two cats living in the house right now, I probably wouldn''t keep it for long. Since it''s an exotic animal, some shelters may not know what to do with it. So I''d keep it until I had done some research to find it a home that was suitable.
