My center pieces were high and all colors. All white is elegant but I like colorful.

Our centerpieces were three vases of varying heights, on the bottom was aqua and frosted white sea glass.. filled with water, and a submerged single rose bud.. a floating candle on top...

Candles were also placed on the tables... pretty simple...

Right now, our plan is to carve out pumpkins and create a autumn arrangement (sunflowers, orange/yellow wildflowers, autumn leaves, small branches, etc.) inside them.

However, the centerpieces are the first place we'll scrimp if the budget gets tight--in which case we'll probably do water-filled vases with leaves inside and candles on top!

Ours will be the in the stone urns pictured below, but "Very romantic, elegant garden feel created by overfilling a small stone urn with amaranthus, white bouvardia, yoko onos, burgundy roses, hibiscus pods, hypericum berries, and greenery" as per our florist quote. Plus, "[my] arrangement would be taller, fuller, and drape down as well. (By about 2-3 " all the way around.)"

Probably with some sort of votives around them.

Still deciding on colors, but our centerpiece holders will be a dozen testubes in a wooden testube rack. That way all of our guests can take home a tube of flowers. We are scientists and went to the same university...and scheduled our chemistry labs so we could be together. I''m thinking of maybe doing some all white, and some in bright colors just to mix things up.

Potted plants! Then we''ll plant them in the yard after the post-wedding brunch

Ours is a vase with a candle and decorative glass beads, on a mirror with candles and dried leaves. Sort of like this, but the candle will be golden/ivory. There will also be ribbons on the vase somehow.

I have a question: we have the option of mirrored rounds or squares, if the vase is round, should I use a round mirror?

For the dining room, mine are similar to Amber Waves, except with a white pillar candle in the hurricane, and we are going to attempt to use real leaves, or if not, will purchase pressed/dried leaves to use.

FOr the auditorium where the dancing will be, there are small cocktail tables around, so I will probably buy some of the tall cylinders to do floating candles in with submerged leaves- and also use varying heights of these around the guest book table, etc.

Amber, I debated square or round mirrors, I''ve seen both, but I think we''re using round

labbie, I think round looks better, but then I''m thinking, "Square would be a contrast!" Big shock, me not making up my mind.

amberwaves,
ha ha! we sound a lot alike,

i thought square would be cool as well, i''ve only purchased one round mirror so- gasp! i may actually change my mind- or you could do half & half....

I was thinking of not doing centerpieces. If the restaurant we''re having our wedding at already has votives on each table or a simple flower in a bud vase for their regular customers, I may skip the expense of doing something different. I seem to recall seeing bud vases when I visited a few times but I''m not sure if they''re removed for weddings. I''ll have to check that out. IF I decided to use my own centerpieces, I''ll definitely go wtih something low and relatively simple. I love the idea of using tulips in a small round vase but I don''t think tulips are in season in July. I''m not a fan of tall centerpieces -- the kind where you have to peek around or through them in order to have conversations with others at the table. It drives me nuts.

I''m having oil lanterns tied with a simple white ribbon for my centerpiece. I''m having a casual reception with barbecue and a country/western/bluegrass band so we thought this went well and will also add some light.

We will have 3" cube vases with alstromerias on our 48" rounds. They are hardy for the summer, colorful, garden-y, easy to arrange, CHEAP (:P) and no thorns to avoid. Plus, thier leaves do this interesting thing where they grow up and past the bloom itself so they even have dimension and texture even tho it''s still only one type of flower.

I''m going to either wrap the inside vase with some sort of green leaf (love this look!) or make it easier on myself and color the water green. Oh, and I''m putting 3 votives on the table around the centerpieces, too. I''m going for a romantic garden look :)

Aw, no-one else doing potted plants?

I voted other b/c I''m using only one color flower in the centerpiece. Our flowers are the deep pink Hot Princess rose and we''re having a glass bowl filled w/water, two roses and two floating candles. This is something we are DIYing.

I would do potted plants, rainbowtrout, but my venue is a museum and won''t allow them

I''m doing potted ivy! I hate the idea (and expense) of cutting flowers for just one day.
