I had a quick question regarding the name of the part of a rign - sorry if this is a stupid question. Anyway, with respect to a Harry Winston type setting with baguettes on the side, what do you call the piece of metal that the diamond sits in - it is perpendicular to the prongs. So when you look at the ring from the side, the piece of metal I am referring to is the bar that that visually splits the top half of the diamond and the cutlet. Clearly I am bad at explaining it, and wonder what the term is so that I can explain when having it designed that I want this part as thin as possible (so long as it is still sturdy). My girlfriend loves the side view of diamonds.
