At one point I planned to propose to my GF tonight when she gets home from her business trip. I had planned to write out "Will You Marry Me" with (battery-operated) tealights in the backyard when she got home.

Uh yeah, her flight is now 3 hours delayed and she''s not getting home until at least 3am!!!

I''m so relieved I didn''t have all these grand plans tonight, I''d be so disappointed and nervous for nothing!

The plan is still at the end of June when we go on a trip to SF. wooo!

(that ring is burning a hole in my bathroom cabinet, LOL)

As a woman, and a nosy one at that, I would look for a better hiding place lol!

we don''t live together and she has NO IDEA about the ring. She won''t find it. It''s in a super high cabinet and you can''t even see or reach it without getting a stool out.

(I''m a girl too, and even *I* don''t snoop)

Well, I am admittedly snoopier than most lol. Good point about her not expecting it, I think that makes a difference. It''d be hard not to look if I knew a proposal was imminent. I picked out my own ring so I didn''t have to snoop lol. Good luck!!!

That''s a shame that her flight was delayed, but maybe it was for the best? I think proposing while in San Fransisco sounds wonderful if you can wait that long.

If you propose in June, do you have a date picked? I am proposing on June 26. That would be funny if it was the same day. We can keep each other sane until then....only 58 more days

Ha!

A friend of mine recently proposed to his girlfriend. He had grand plans too! She is currently attending school in another city, and he was going to pick her up from the airport when she came to visit and surprise her by whisking her away to a fancy hotel (rather than drive the couple hours back to the nearby city he lives in) where he made reservations and was going to propose over/after dinner.

Well, just before she got on the plane she called to say her dad would pick her up from the airport and visit with her as he was in town (she had not seen him in 2-3 years). And on the plane she got really sick and fainted so as soon as the plane landed she had to go to the hospital!

The proposal still happened...but far different than expected!

Your poor gf - late flights are never fun. Good luck with the June proposal !:)

Yay!! This is so exciting!! I am so happy for you. And I am selfishly happy for myself that there is another person in this world that is going through exactly the same thing that I am. For some reason, it makes me feel better.

I feel the same way! I wish there was a private messaging feature on her so I can get your contact info ;)

I know...that would be nice. I am such a mess, and I don''t have many people that I can discuss it with. I like to think that it will be easier when I get the ring because at least I will know that it looks nice. But I have a feeling that it will only make it worse. I am going to want to give it to her everyday! ugh

Funny how things work out. Even though it makes the wait longer, I''m glad you''re proposing on gay pride weekend because it will make it all the more exciting and meaningful! Now, though, the wait . . . . At least you''re in good company with damons.

yes, you totally will! I have had the ring for a week, but she''s been out of town. Now that she''s back it''s ALL i can think about. ARGH.... 58 days you say? Holy hell that is an eternity!!!

Feel free to ignore me, BUT life is shooooort and end-of-June is 2 months from now!!! I say go back to plan A with the votives - isn''t there anyother time you could surprise her? Then 2 more months of engagment bliss b/f you even get to SF!

my other option is to surprise her in LA next month. Like show up without her knowing kinda surprise. Hmmmm....

I know, I want to do it RIGHT NOW, bahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! all you LIWs with rings at home, your BFs are going through this too!

I''m baaaaaaaack - DO IT!!!!!!

motown--- for a sec I got panicked, thinking my GF figure out PS and my handle and you were her, LOL!!!!!!!!

Oooh, I agree, it would be great if you could propose sooner rather than later! Don''t wait until June 25 if you don''t have to.

Everything happens for a reason. I think it''s great that your going to propose during gay pride week. It will make it all the more special. Please post an update when you do propose.

Congratuluations!!! I will be celebrating gay pride weekend in SF too...one of the funnest weekends here in my opinion.

Aaaaw, sorry that you didn''t manage the tealight plan! I liked that.

I am with the do-it-now crowd. You''re just dying to propose, you want to start your Happy New Life, right? DO IT!

Seriously, you know the girl and the situation best, so do what you think is right, but if you were to come back here tomorrow and say that you were engaged, I for one would be very happy!

Don''t wait you crazy woman! Do it now! You will not regret asking sooner. My BIL finally proposed to his LIW, after hanging on to the ring for 6 months. You know what he said once it was done? "We should have gotten enageged ages ago!"

DO IT!

I know, I know, but she really does NOT like the state in which we live. I feel like we at least need to get engaged in a state she adores (CA). That, and she picked a fight with me on Friday AND today, so I''m a bit relieved I didn''t do it on Thursday, LOL.

We''ll see, this weekend was definitely NOT optimal. Maybe May will be a better month. It''s starting to get really hot where we live and that just makes for such a cranky GF...

I know it''s hard, but I personally think you should wait. I just think your proposal idea is so romantic, and you will be able to celebrate your engagement while you are on vacation in California.

It will also give you some time to plan things out and make it really special. I think June 25th will be here before you know it, and it will be worth the wait.

That''s just my opinon.

Thanks for your input! I think I can wait, I really want to do it in CA! It''s not really cruel to make her wait since she has NO idea I''m planning this, right?

I agree that it isn''t cruel to make her wait if she doesn''t know it''s coming. I think a California proposal will be extra sepcial.
Everyone loves a good proposal story, and you will have a super romantic one that you can tell your friends and family for years to come.
Gay pride week sounds so festive! Will you get to see a parade? I bet there will be lots of proposals in SF that week.

I''m in the "wait" camp...but you know that!

One reason is that for the rest of your lives, people will be asking her, "So, how did she propose? Tell us the story!" And if you wait, your GF will be able to say, "Oh, it was amazing ~ we flew out to SF for Gay Pride weekend, went to the parade, and then we walked to the top of Telegraph Hill and walked around the park to Coit Tower and took in amazing views of the Bay and the GG Bridge, and then blah blah blah...."

It seems trivial now, but it''s kind of like an extra present that you''re giving her -- a great engagement story. Plus, proposing in SF during gay pride weekend makes you look like a total rockstar badass who has her stuff together, ya know? It says you really put a lot of thought into it. I think that''s super cool.
