FI''s boss won''t be able to come to our wedding, but he''s instead throwing us a party so that our local friends can celebrate with us. He unfortunatley called it a ''Wedding Shower'' which both implies that gifts are expected AND that these people will be invited to the wedding. Oops! Anyway, I e-mailed my friends and emphasized that they need not shower us with anything, and we just hope they can come celebrate with us and have a good time.

Well, according to our registry, our first wedding present is nonetheless now on the way. It''s still 3 months till we get hitched, so I hadn''t got any thank you cards yet.

So I have two Q''s for you gals.

1) Am I correct that you send a thank you as soon as you receive a gift? Not necessarily after the wedding?

2) What are your favourite online paper goods stores?

How nice of your FI''s boss to throw a shower for the two of you!

To answer your questions:

1) YES, you are correct to send a thank you as soon as you receive a gift, you should ALWAYS send a thank you right away, always.

2) I love Paper Source, but I''m not sure if they ship outside of the country.

I can''t wait to hear about your extra celebration!

Actually, here's a follow-up question. Should I offer FI's boss the strong 'please make sure no one feels obliged' caveat as well as our registry info so he can pass the caveat and / or the info along if someone asks for it? Or wait? He is not very wedding savvy (being the father of two late teens) so hasn't asked about it.

Just thinking, since someone already hunted down our registry and someone else wrote to ask ME about it.

ETA: Papersource.... mmmm. Looks like they have STORES too. I may have to head down there and have a look.

That is so cool!

I would send out thank you notes right away to anybody that brings a gift to the shower.

I use Crane''s for all my engraved stationery. They have top of the line products [and they manyfacture the paper on which US currency is printed, for what it''s worth - not sure if the pun was intended or not! LOL!] They also have lots of beautiful that don''t require custom engraving. They have retailers worldwide so I suspect they ship internationally from their online store.

Papyrus has some cool stuff. They are also in Canada and Hong Kong [I don''t know where you are].

When I sent out Christmas cards I got them from Tiffany''s. They also have nice note cards but I do not see any online.

Definitely send a thank you as soon as you receive a gift. IG, all of your TY's do not have to match your invites, nor do they have to match your wedding colors, etc. Grab some pretty Hallmark sets of TY's and reserve them for occasions such as the one you're experiencing now and even after your wedding, as you may receive the errant post-wedding gift and you may at that point have run out of TY's anyway.

As far as your 2nd Q...I love Crane's, but they are rather expensive and maybe that's not the route you want to go. I suggest purchasing nice, heavy-ish cardstock and envelopes online and if you or someone you know does calligraphy have them help with the TY task. Or just write it in your own penmanship and don't forget to have some nice return address labels printed with your maiden name. Don't order too many maiden-name labels...hee hee. HTH!

ETA: PS, it's time to buy TY cards, lol!
