Well, after much thought, and all your good advice, I decided to put the 3 stone upgrade on hold. The truth is - I love my 3 stone. Love it. So I'm in no huge rush to change it. It will happen when it happens if it happens. While I think it's definite that I'll upgrade the sides, it may well only be in clarity and there's a good chance that the center stone will remain as is. It's a beautifully made, classy ring, and I'm very fond of it.
But in the meantime, I have another project I wanted to do.
A couple of months ago, I had *this* ring made:
And a little after that, I had *this* ring made:
The first ring is a 1.4ct I SI1 soli. It's a nice ring, but it was purely a place holder for an upgrade, and I said from the day I got it "this ring won't be with me for long". And it won't be.
When I decided to put the WF upgrade on ice, I decided to go ahead with the 1.4ct upgrade through Blue Nile. A few days ago, I found the most GLORIOUS round brilliant:

It has *exactly* the stats I love, and I can tell from the photos that it has an excellence of cut you find occasionally but rarely on Blue Nile. So I went ahead and contacted them today about upgrading my 1.4ct diamond and I'm waiting to hear back that this stone is definitely available. If it is, I'll move on it immediately.
As for my floral ring - I love it. But ever since I got the 1.4ct diamond I've been wondering how fabulous that floral design would look with the larger diamond in it. I've wanted a soli, but not necessarily a plain soli, as they tend to look un-dressed to me. So the long and the short of it is - the new 1.76ct E VS2 is going to go into a larger re-make of the floral ring, and that will be my solitaire. It will be a substantial ring - about 2.5mm longer and wider than the one I already have (almost all in the center stone) - and will be a beautiful stand alone size, which will still have room beneath it for my Leon Mege eternity, or my Tiffany Legacy wedder, or my lovely Scott Kay platinum wedder, which was engraved so beautifully for me by award-winning engraver, Marc Williams out in PA. So that will be my soli set. I'll probably take the AVR out of the other floral setting and add something hot pink to wear in the medium term, but to ultimately give to my god-daughter one day when she's older.
I still have my AVC to set (halo of calibre cut rubies - all in yellow gold) and the cluster I'm currently working on with DKJ (Barry Bridgestock pink tourmaline in a halo of Yoram-cut OECs). I have a beautiful halo planned for my golden sapphire, (which I wasn't fond of in the 3-stone setting with cushion cut sides), and one last Christmas project as I have no Christmas jewelry whatsoever. My new OEC bracelet has been engraved, my 7 stone in platinum ring has been re-set, my golden South Sea and pearl earrings are done, and I'm working on a few last charms for my charm bracelet. One diamond bangle for my birthday next year should see me out.
And we'll see at that point if I can bring myself to touch my beloved 3 stone. Something in my gut keeps telling me "don't do it, Mrs B - don't do it. If it ain't broke...."
