All, thanks for all the help and information so far. I found a local jewelry store today that looks like it does great work (I got a recommendation from a friend that is into custom jewelry) and I have a call into Leon to see if I can make an appointment for next Saturday (I am going to be in NYC anyway) - unfortunately the woman that answered the phone said that they only sometimes work on Saturday, so hopefully they will be able to meet next weekend. I did not realize that it took so long to make the ring and set the stone - my ignorance shows. Anyway, it it really takes between 4-8 weeks (depending on who does it), I better really get moving on my search if I am going to have something ready for the Holidays. I would love opinions on the diamonds I have pasted below (sorry so many, but I just am not good enough to discreminate between them based on the numbers and information alone). I think my goal would be to find 2 or 3 that people think would be great and try to arrange to have them shipped to an appraiser where I can see them in person next week. I realize the size, color and clairty vary - but to the extent possible, please ignore all those features (obviously bigger is better for lots of people, but I am truly trying to get opinions on just the diamond itself) and let me know which diamond you think would be the prettiest and perform the best. In the end, I plan on only buying a ring only once (knock on wood) and am willing to buy any of these (i.e., ignore cost differences).

Welcome to PS!

I'm not a RB person most of the stones look good to me. I did not like the photo of the Excel stone. Maybe it's their picture taking, can someone into RBs comment?

Now you do have a range of size going on. What size finger does your gf have? What size stones do her friends and family have? Is she comfortable with a 2ct stone or would she like something smaller? If you can answer these questions you can delete some of your choices.

Also think about the length of the return period and if you will propose within that window. Or at least show her the loose stone, cause the setting does take some time. And is there any possibility she will want to uprgade/change shapes in the future? Then check the vendor's rules about that.

Have fun!

She is a petite girl - her ring size is 4.5. We have looked at 1.5-2.25 - she loves them all. I am worried that showing her the loose stone takes too much surprise away. I want to find the one on my own and have it set and propose around the holidays. I think both WF and GOG have good upgrade policies, so that is nice.

well, they are all going to be beautiful stones. I''d probably pick the 2.6 from GOG b/c of the size but really you''d be splitting hairs on the stones. If you''re going to be in NY I think it would be worth a trip to GOG which is about 45 minutes from NY city to see them all in person and what your eyes prefers.

That last GOG stone is actually 2.265. Gosh, they are all beautiful. Hard to go wrong. They are all going to be huge on her little finger! I agree with MrsS that if you are going to be in NYC anyway, to try and take the trip to GOG and see all the 2 ct. stones! He also has a relationship with Leon Mege, so he can send your stone directly there for you.
