That's it, I'm ring-shaming

Those who have Facebook (Social media) have you seen the ring-shaming groups? OMG it's a mess. I wish I could link it but some of the posts there actually have decent looking rings but the comments. Whew! I'd be afraid to post my rings there LOL!

Yes I’m on one just as a lurker. The rings posted on there aren’t typical Price Scope quality, lol, although I’ve seen some nice diamonds, mostly in ugly settings. Halos are very frowned upon for some reason. Lots of badly cut stones overall though. I do think it’s a weird group, but it’s funny nonetheless. I’d never post my ring!

These are just groups that make fun of someone else’s ring? that sounds horrible and mean. We all have different styles, so why put someone else down? I’ve seen rings that aren’t my taste- and I’m sure people feel the same about my rings- but if we all liked the same thing, the world would be boring.

Yeah I don't get it? Is it fun to be mean to people? I don't want that kind of energy in my life even to be "funny"

I think the whole point it to shame any ring posted even if it’s gorgeous.

I think you’re correct. Most of the people that post are “roasting” their own rings. It’s very strange to say the least…maybe they are seeking any type of attention, even if negative.

I don’t get it either. Maybe the people shaming others just need to feel better about their own ring?

Whether your ring is large, small, traditionally “beautiful”, untraditional, plain, fancy... or you have no ring at all... it’s the sentiment, meaning and the love behind it that counts.

LOL, their group leader found at a local court....

I like groups like Rate My Plate which I think is now more a competition to try and find the most awful food photo, and it's mostly good natured. Rings though... So much tied to rings... And roasting your own ring? That's fine if you bought your own ring, but I hazard to guess most of the ring wearers had someone else buy it for them so what does that say?

I dunno, house shaming... kinda but ring shaming seems mean...

I just requested to join. Not sure if I'll stick with it. I hope it's funny.

"Shaming" sites would be my kind of hell, so no, and not just for jewellery.

DK :roll2:

I joined out of curiosity a few months ago, thought it was kind of mean, and left the group a few days later.

OMG

OMG they abhor halo settings. SMH, it;s awful. A lot of rings I think on there are decent quality but they ironically like some of the tacky/costume jewelry looking rings, just my opinion LOL!!

I notice that you have to sign up to be a member of the group. But, here is one ring that was shamed (I didn’t sign up for the group- but you can find info by just a search). I really like this ring. I’m not sure if something is wrong with me, but I like some of the rings that have been shamed. What is wrong with this beauty?8771E4BD-F9B2-4223-9B20-C9321B0F6E06.png

whatever you do don't post your jewelry. I know if I posted my YG radiant E-ring they'd shame it to hell!!

I’d NEVER post my ring in that group. They abhor solitaires and that’s what I have. They refer to them as basic and bland ‍♀️

There’s nothing wrong! It’s gorgeous. It’s really a “roasting” forum that roasts no matter how gorgeous or how hideous a ring is. That’s the impression I get from the group. No ring is good there.

I like this ring a lot. I think its well balanced and looks nice on her hand.

The only concern I'd have (if I were to critique the ring) would be, do the diamonds look milky in person? It may just be the lighting in the photo. But I'm guessing that's a critique above the heads of the folks on the facebook group.

Oh no, the group will call out the milky look of the diamonds for certain.

Oh, now I see. Sounds like a mean spirited group.

Just to be clear, I'd never critique a person's ring unless they asked for my honest opinion on it, and it was in the spirit of "should I buy this ring?" like we sometimes get people asking here on PS.

it is definitely a "roast" page, insults everywhere. Not really my thing either but wanted to know if the PS community was aware of it.

Because I'm a jewelry geek sometimes my friends will send me links to groups like that thinking I'll enjoy them.

I can't think of too many things I enjoy less than seeing people laugh at the happiness of others.

Best decision of 2019 was quitting Facebook, so much negative ju-ju gone from my life after that.

I don’t think I’ll ever get such roasting culture or the prank culture... So many things happening in social media that I don’t understand or can accept... Maybe I have an old soul... I’ll pass.

It sounds the most awful place
i love solitaires and 3 stones and not so much halos but the most important thing is the owner thinks its besutiful
Who would subject themselves to unkindness especially on the internet
