So first of all everyone who suggested the Emerald Cut Solitaire in my $25,000 thread wins!!! Thanks to all who played! I took your suggestions seriously.

And we went to New York last weekend and got ideas but no ring. And then I was playing around in better colors on a vendor’s site a few of you had suggested and lo and behold…I found her!!!

She is $7,000 over budget but guess who happens to have a big tax refund sitting around? Yep. This lady!!!

So I texted him, “I love it! May I PLEASE pay the difference???” & he who previously was sure I would find love in the original price range replied, “Ok! It’s Beautiful!!!”

So She is a 2 carat E Emerald Cut VS1. Vendor says she is eye clean. LW ratio is 1.36. Dimensions are about 8.6x6.3. I am being slightly vague because she is on hold for the weekend and I don’t want to get scooped before we pay. Not sure if that ever happens. I think these people are ethical but New York was a journey of all kinds of high pressure sales so who knows???

Now I come humbly to request ideas so I can get her set for the holidays!!! Trying to stay either traditional solitaire or bezel because every dollar over budget is my dollar. Also she is going to be magnificent and I hope she can hold her own without the need for more bling. As soon as we mail the checks, I’ll provide all the deets.

So now the question is: what simple platinum setting would you do???

I was hard over on a bezel before but some double claw prongs are mighty seductive.

SandyK’s Maytal Hanna ring is lovely (below) but the modernness of the squared off shank is not me.

How would this look with a rounder band? Or a knife edge?

How slender a band can I get away with with?

Please feel free to post ideas (especially if you have experience with ECs)

I do think that setting would be pretty with everything more rounded. 1.8mm is the smallest I would go (2.0mm is safer). If its a knife
edge and taller then you can usually go thinner.

Here is a thread to get you started...

Oh thank you!!!
Anyone thoughts in prongs? I love the look of sharp claw prongs but is that just looking for trouble?

I have double claw prongs on mine and have no trouble with them.

We're on the same page. I went with a round band measuring under 2mm and single prongs in PT. I wanted to see the cut corners.

I think sharp claw prongs could be done well by a skillful setter.

Double claw prongs would be pretty. I would want to see the facets before recommending a setting so hope you get her soon and can post pics.

Have you ever worn a knife edge? I find them uncomfortable wand would hate to have you invest a lot of time/effort into a setting and then not love it.

I have not had a knife edge. I have big knuckles and thinner (what do you call the area where the ring sits?) That part is smaller so not sure if I would feel it. Maybe I should run into Tiffany and try one.

Having chipped the corner of my ec in her original setting, I now recommend double claw prongs!

This is why I thought I should get a bezel. BF vetoed it. Not pretty enough he says.
