So, any suggestions of good honeymoon locations for late September?

FI keeps asking where I want to go, and I really have NO idea! I''m thinking gorgeous beaches and views, privacy, great food (but somewhere with more than just seafood - I can''t eat it

), and fun activities we can do for some variety. We''ve never been outside the continental US or CAN, so no matter where we go it will be somewhere new for us. Where''s your favorite romantic getaway??

Well, Ireland may not qualify in all of the categories you listed, but it''s high on my list of romantic getaways. So does Quebec City. As for beaches, Bermuda is really beautiful. We stayed at the Ariel Sands a few years ago and it''s private. The rooms are actually little cottages on the property. It''s been years though, so I''m not sure if it''s changed at all. Here''s a link to the hotel:

I''m not sure when Hurricane season is though, so that may be something to think about. Bermuda is definitely somewhere I''d return to in a heartbeat.

We''re going to Portugal for our honeymoon, and I hear it''s beautiful...we can''t wait. We were looking for someplace a little out of the ordinary (at least to us -- I think it''s more popular of a destination with Europeans).

My husband and I went to Nevis for our honeymoon and stayed at the Four Seasons. We had a lovely time, the island was beautiful, not crowded at all, and our room was to die for! The food - OMG, the food! Also, the spa is top 5 or 6 on Conde Nast''s spa list(although the Four Seasons on Kona, Hawaii is #1) We spent our days getting couples massages, hiking through the rainforest, laying on the beach, and overeating tons!

However, I love Hawaii, Maui especially, and really want to go back again soon.

You mentioned great beaches, great food and privacy. My FI and I are hoping to go to the Ladera, which has all those things. I know there is another woman here who went there on her honeymoon and loved it. http://www.ladera.com/
There is also the south of Spain. It is famous for its food, borders on the meditreanean and Barcelona is probably my favorite place in the world. The weather is also very nice that time of year and if we had the money thats where we would go.
Anywhere in Italy is idylic. I won''t start posting stuff because I would need more info about what you like, but Italy is so lovely.
There are a lot of lovely areas in Mexico, but do avoid some of the major torist traps like Cancun.
If by privacy you mean private beaches and the like, try asia. I have not been very many places there so am not much help, but a lot of the ladies here have been so if that sounds good, I am sure they can help

I *think* it was jcrow. If so, I know she has a thread with a few pics of her honeymoon on here somewhere.

There are a million places, if money was no object, we would like to go. We have friends who have been to really nice warm secluded beaches and overseas destinations. However, for Our honeymoon we are planning something kind of different. Neither of us has been to any of the states on the east coast. Sooooooooooo we thought we would fly from Minnesota to Maine,or there abouts. Rent a nice convertable car and drive down the east coast ending at Virginia beach. We want to tour some wine country as well.

We will have two weeks and just thought this would be so much fun.

We are working on mapping out the drive. Places to see and stay along the way.If anyone with knowledge of that part of the country has any ideas for us please feel free to chime in!

Right now we are planning on September of 08. We have had to push back our date due to two job layoffs and an illness.

This is a great thread! I love reading all the ideas and places people have been and will go. :)

LauraLu, I am from Western NYS and we have fabulous wine country here (Finger Lakes region)....and September is prime time. For our mini moon we rented a cottage on Seneca Lake so we could bring our doggie along, but there are countless b&b''s and romantic spots to stay. Finger Lakes Wine Country

If you''re going to be going in late September, I wouldn''t recommend most islands in the Caribbean because of the hurricane factor. Aruba, however, is out of the hurricane belt and just so happens to by my and my husband''s FAVORITE Caribbean island. The beaches are beautiful and there is tons to do (ATV rides, many water activities, submarines, etc.) The restaurants are fantastic, the bus system is very easy and efficient, everybody is very friendly and best of all, it''s pretty inexpensive. My husband and I generally go once every year or two because it''s really easy to get to (non-stop flights from U.S. Air) and it''s fairly cheap.

We were married in late September of this year, however we aren''t taking our honeymoon (#1) until December and are going to Hawaii. I did read that September/October is a good time of year to go there and when we were comparing prices, it was cheaper to go then than other times of the year. We''re hoping to hit some Mediterranean islands for honeymoon #2 this spring, but I really know nothing about them except that they are supposed to be beautiful! We also considered Tahiti, but there wasn''t enough there to do. If you want to relax on the beach and take in the views, Tahiti could be a perfect destination.

thanks Labbielove. I am bookmarking and going to go thru the finger lakes site later today. So much to learn! Thanks again :)

I have not read thru all the replies, so sorry if i am repeating a previously made suggestion, but how about Malaysia??

That time of year, it will be gorgeous!! you would have just avoided the summer rush, things wil be back to normal and the weather should be amazing...the beaches are also great and the country itself is very affordable and the hotels are amazing!

How many weeks are you planning to take for your honeymoon? I say you can easily do a 2 island hop and the capital in 2 weeks (Langkawi for the most amazing and serene beaches, Penang for a more tradational feel of the country and ofcourse Kuala Lumper for its amazing shopping and sight-seeing..in KL itself you can branch off and spend a few days in the Sunway Lagoon resort which has its own major water park, amusment park and shopping mall!)...

I really loved looking at Eleguin''s honeymoon pictures. Maybe they can give you some inspiration?

Thanks Maisie for posting my link!

Ladyciel, I highly recommend the Greek Islands if you are looking for beautiful ocean and just an overall romantic experience. We went the 2nd and 3rd week of September. The weather was perfect every day, high 80s during the day and cool but comfortable in the evenings. The food is spectacular (and you can do fine there without seafood) and the scenery is just so breathtaking. I do have to add the caveat that the Greek islands (at least the ones I went to: Santorini, Mykonos, Crete) aren''t extremely "beachy" places, so it''d be very different from Hawaii or many of the Caribbean islands. There is plenty of ocean everywhere you turn, but not necessarily so much sand to suntan on. But that was actually the appeal to us, that is was different from a beachy vacation.

Good luck in choosing your dream honeymoon!

The Islands of Hawaii are less expensive during Sept Oct. Greek Islands should be a tad less expensive too but much more expensive than Hawaii. I have been dying to go the Greek Islands.

The best and most beautiful vacation I have ever been on was in the South of France. We stayed in Cannes and Nice. I hate seafood and I had some of the best meals of my life. The beaches were incredible. We stayed at the Carlton (scenes from the movie French Kiss and also an Elton John music video were shot there!) You can also drive about an hour to Grasse where many of the first perfumery''s are and also drive to the gorgeous walled city of St. Paul de Vence. I wish I could go back and I know that when I go on my honeymoon (in about 5 or 6 years haha)!

Italy is a great place in late September.

The Cinque Terre on the west coast are so beautiful and not packed with tourists at that time. Portofino and Monterosso sul Mare are my favourite romantic bits.

Otherwise Tuscany is always lovely - I lived there for nearly 6 years so if you decide on Italy, happy to give suggestions.

Lake Como is to die for as well.

Ooooooh, FI has drooled over many a photo of Lake Como (and a movie scene or two) so I''ll definitely have to throw that idea out to him.

Without a DOUBT, I''d recommend Hawaii. And more specifically, Kaua''i. I''ve been to four of the islands, and Kaua''i was my favorite by far. It is so romantic and beautiful. I mean, really take your breath away lovely. To be honest, Kaua''i is my favorite place on earth! I''d say it is the most natural and tropical of the islands. Just amazing.

Plus, you don''t have to really worry about hurricane season, as it is in the Pacific.

My DH and I went for our honeymoon in the beginning of September and it was sooo wonderfully uncrowded and amazing. All the kids are back in school in September/October, so the resorts are pretty much kid free, which is great.

It was wonderful. My only regret is that we didn''t take two weeks...it was amazing. There are amazing beaches, great snorkeling, really lovely sites to see. And it feels very Hawaiian and just amazing. I totally wish I was still there!

One thing - the food on Kaua''i wasn''t amazing. We ate at some really good restaurants, but nothing that completely took our breath away. Of course, there are only 50,000 folks that live on the island...and to be honest, although DH and I love a good meal, the pluses of Kaua''i totally outweigh that one negative.

We are going on a honeymoon in September as well.

We really don''t want to travel far, because we''ll probably only have 5-6 days. And we both hate long plane flights, etc. So that sort of leaves Hawaii out. We''ve been thinking of Bermuda or Aruba since they are out of hurricane danger. I particularly like Bermuda cause it''s really close to the East Coast - a short and direct plane flight for us.

I have to say, though, that I really kinda like the idea of a Sandals-type resort, where everything is included and you don''t have to figure out anything. I think we want a lazy people''s honeymoon since we''re so busy in real life. But there are no Sandals in Bermuda or Aruba. And I don''t know what the chances are of a hurricane hitting the exact week we go anyway.

So I guess we''ll see - feel free to share any information you come across in your search with me as well!
