I just saw "The Lake House" movie today, the jist is this girl starts corresponding with a guy who lives in 2004 while she lives in 2006. Then she waits and waits for him...it is sooo sad, I cried the entire movie I think. But then again I cry at every movie. I was dripping tears. All over my boyfriend. Then he had to sit there and tell me all the holes in the plot.

You guys should watch it :) ...then you can see how good it is just to be waiting for an engagement, as opposed to the man of your dreams who lives in a different YEAR than you!!!!

I read a blog recently and the girl asked her boyfriend if they were going to see the movie. He said, "You go see it now, I''ll see it in two years, then we''ll exchange letters." I thought that was hilarious! I want to see it but my guy would never agree to.

and yes, you''re right, it''s good to know that we''re already WITH the man we love... we''re only WAITING for engagement!

HAHA that is a really really good reply. i''m lucky in that my boyfriend will pretty much go to any movie, unless it is way way way chick flick like Legally Blonde. in exchange though I have to go see XMen and Batman and stuff.

I am so behind on what movies are out in the theater and haven''t heard of it, but it certainly sounds interesting. I might have to head out and see it if I''m in the mood for a sob-fest anytime soon.

Just from the little you said, it sounds a bit like the book The Time Traveler''s Wife. I think it was popular with a lot of book groups a year or two ago. The basic premise is that this guy is able to travel back and forth in time, but he doesn''t have much control over it. In the past, he meets a girl who he agrees to meet up with when she reaches his "now", and she agrees to save herself for him. (The link I provided has much more info.) Interesting, and pretty quick, read.

froufrou - I drive my bf crazy with verbally criticizing ''holes in the plot,'' inconsistencies like one frame going from wet hair to dry hair and back to wet, or just plain physical properties of things that would deem it impossible.

He''s always (in the nicest way) saying shut-up, it''s a movie - it''s not real anyway!

I want to see it. I just don''t get how they met to start with. I think I''d be asking questions through the whole thing too.

Starset I am totally that way too. Greg gets all mad at me...IT''S JUST A MOVIE!

FF...I had to laugh when I read this post, because you said you were crying the whole movie, but I know I would just be plot picking. I mean come on...the plot of the movie sounds LAME. He''s in 2004 and she is in 2006? She waits the whole movie for him? Yech! My first thought was, umm why dont they go find each other in their respective years? I mean it''s only 2 years apart! Or at least make it like 1904 and 2006. Something REALLY interesting.

My Mom wants to go see it this afternoon, I may have too busy of an afternoon but maybe I can make it. Then I can drive HER insane instead of Greg (who would never want to go see a movie like that anyway...hehe)....

The Lake House is a remake of my favorite Korean movie, called Il Mare. I was horrified when I first heard that they were remaking the film - not only is it a beautiful story, the cinematography is just absolutely gorgeous - it's won numerous awards worldwide for its cinematography. I didn't want it to get ruined!

I haven't watched The Lake House yet, but I've spoken to those who have. Everyone told me that it's not worth the $10 movie ticket...maybe the cost of the DVD rental. In addition, when I compared plot lines, I saw that they made some changes. They didn't seem to be good changes either.

I highly recommend Il Mare for anyone who's liked The Lake House.

*edit* - here's the Amazon link to Il Mare:

Seriously! Haven''t they ever heard of Google??

moon - they meet cause there''s a magical mailbox that they change letters in. its MAGIC. :) but yeah its not supergreat and there are a lot of plot holes, i mean a LOT, for me who normally doesn''t even notice plot holes, i just liked the concept..

Blen -- I loooove the Time Travelers Wife. it is definately definately one of my favorites. I''m obsessed with time travel love stories for some reason :)

Jen -- neat, i didnt know it was a remake of a Korean movie, ill l have to watch Il Mare, its probably way better than its remake!!! :)

YES, the absense of Google was one of the holes in the plot!!!! :) LOL.

Some friends went to see it and thought it was okay, but not great. Very sappy though. I''m thinking rental. I''m saving my frivolous plot movie-going episode to see The Devil Wears Prada.

I havent seen this movie yet.. but i was thinking okay so he''ll just wait till 2006 then they can meet... but DUH it''ll be 2008 for her when he is in 2006 so they will always be 2 years apart. and she obvioulsly cant go back in time.... oh wait but she can mail and receive letters from a magic mailbox

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR he can be like "okay where were you on april 16th 2004?" then he can go there..meet her..... but then she''ll have no idea who he is...and probably think he nuts OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR She''ll go for it and he''ll tell her all about her future and stuff.............. yeah

okay i am pleased to report that i saw the movie and it''s not AS LAME as i thought it would be. worth a matinee but not a full fare..hehee.

there were some areas where i was like ''well DUH'' but overall it wasn''t bad.

though honestly keanu needs to stop OVERACTING so badly. i can somehow never get past him in bill and ted''s excellent adventure. he just is so dopey looking. hehee. oh and the dog in the movie is TOO CUTE.

yeah the dog was cute!!! :)

I don''t think I will go see The Devil Wears Prada...maybe a rental. I read the first half of the book and it wasn''t that great I thought. Then again, she didn''t time travel, so that''s probably why I didn''t like it as much :):)

I just saw this a few days ago, and I agree with Mara...not AS lame as I thought it would be and I will never think Keanu is a good actor. I was discussing this movie with my 16-year old sister and we both -- independently -- picked out the acting moment at which Keanu is at his best/worst. The scene when he is on the roof of the house with his brother is just plain bad. You would think he had never acted before.

The thing I liked best about this movie, however, was that she wasn''t the one who really had to wait. HE had to wait 2+ years to be with her!

lol fata...he actually had to wait FOUR years! they met in his 2004 and then they got together in 2008! she waited 2 years (but not really cuz she was dating the other dude from like 2007-2008)...and YES that scene on the roof was pretty darn bad. i thought his brother was a fairly crappy actor as well, so maybe they were playing off each other and it made it look worse. hehe.

Hehehe, I too am of the "not as bad as it could have been" camp! I actually enjoyed it quite a bit (although nowhere near as much as The Time Traveler''s Wife! Loved that!) even though a lot of the plot holes were dumb. They still did try to address a lot of them (as in they did TRY to meet up in his present, but they couldn''t reeeally b/c it had already happened for her) so you have to give them a bit of credit there. My fiance''s main thing with it though was that they didn''t make ANY attempt to explain what was up with the mailbox!!!! He said if they had had one 5 minute long scene of Keanu going and talking to some professor explaining how the mailbox is supposed to be doing that then it would have been fine, but they just didn''t even pretend to need a reason for it. Which yeah, a bit dumb!
