Can someone tell me if it is worth to pay such a big premium for a love diamond? They only have IGI certs while GIA cert diamonds of same quality costs a lot less. Is it true that GIA diamonds are not well known for ideal cut?

To answer your 1st question I think the "love diamond" your referring to is a marketing strategy used by a company marketing Hearts & Arrows cut stones.

In the competetive realm of diamond buying where you can get competetive prices for Hearts and Arrows diamonds from many different vendors the premium is worth it.

Between the Igi and Gia I think you are confused about what the Gia and Igi are. They are both grading labs who grade the characteristics of a stone. Internal syymettry and cut quality are not given a definite grade on either reports.

It is not true that Gia diamonds are not well known for their ideal cut. Again when trying to understand what the Gia and Igi are, just remember they are 2 different labs that grade stones. The 2 labs have nothing to do with representing or being known for representing "ideal cut diamonds". I am sure when others on the board see this post they will also tell you that the Gia is highly respected and the diamonds they grade fall under many different cut categories. Those categories which they fall under are set by a different standard of grading dealing with proportions given from the sarin results and other info like optical analysis of the internal syymettry. So remember the labs that grade a particular stone have nothing to do with the quality or scoring on the outcome of a stone as falling under the categorie of being an "ideal cut"

Remember there is not a copyright on how to cut a hearts and arrows diamond

There are plenty of ideal cut diamonds on the market, if your not into the brand names.

Thank you guys. So if I am looking for a good round diamond, other than the color and clarity, would an ideal cut also be a principle guideline? Also, since the GIA does not say much about the proportion of the cut, how do I know the proportion of the cut?

if you cannot get the sarin report (it's not common if not in the States) - then you have to go for a stone with a cert that sets out the details of the stones. the more reputable and reliable labs other than GIA is AGS, IGI, HRD, and CGL (japan).

otherwise with GIA cert alone, you can never tell what the sort of cut it is.

and to add more, the Love Diamond is the cream H&A diamonds, and if you can afford the premium, why not ?
