Dear PSers,

I am angry. I am furious. I am irate. I am dejected. And I am in need of consolation.

I began a quest for a new setting for my pear shaped e-ring solitaire on January 8th, 2005. Today is March 18, 2005. There is no new ring. And there will be no new ring.

I started with a consultation with my jeweler (she owns the store, but does not do benchwork) and had to hand over my e-ring so the wax could be done with my stone. I gave her a collage of pics. I expected to see a wax. The design was a basic micopave/halo setting for the pear. Very Ritani-esque, but with several design modifications made by me that did significantly change the overall look.

I was never shown a wax, was simply told 3 weeks later that the ring was being made. I balked, but she said she would keep the ring if I didn't like it. A week and a half later, I got the ring. It wasn't what I wanted. I showed it to you all in a thread, found here:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/mixed-feelings-about-new-pear-setting-opinions.25036/=

I returned the ring 2 days later. Two days after that (they were closed) I went back with a second collage, very specifically documenting every detail down to mm sizes of the bands.

Two weeks later, my wax arrived at the store. It was incorrect in at least 4 ways that were not insignificant. I again pointed out everything that was wrong with the wax, several things which were already discussed before the wax was even made. It was a waste of time.

A week later, no new wax.

Another week later, no new wax.

I called and was told the wax would be there the next day. I later found out, after extracting the designer's phone number from the salesgirl, that this was not true...the wax hadn't even been redone. I was then told by the store owner that she had a "plan B"---a local designer who could do the ring well, and more quickly. I asked for a quote from him. (And inwardly screamed, "Why did we not START with this route???")

Another week goes by. No new wax. No local quote, either.

Another week goes by. No new wax. No local quote.

I call and 1. demand the new wax be there in a week, and 2. demand the local quote also be there in a week. If not, I want my stone, and money back. This gave them a total of more than 3 weeks to get another wax, and a simple quote done.

Well folks, today was the deadline. I got a call, about an hour before I was supposed to show up there, stalling because there was 1. NO wax, and 2. NO quote!!!!!!

I have demanded my stone, and my money back. This should happen next week (the stone was coming back with the wax that should have BEEN here today).

And so, I am irate, I am livid...and I am so freaking dejected. I have gone 2 months without my e-ring, 2 months of stress and annoyance, and now I have no ring, and possibly have to even replace the head on the original e-ring just to get my pear back into it.

Fire Goddess, that is TERRIBLE.....you must feel very down...How could they do that? Why do you have to get it back? Iwould demand that THEY deliver it all immediately!!! I hope that you won''t have them reset the ring, and that you will get THEM to PAY to have it done elsewher....what a bummer.......

PS: I was just thinking about you and wondering how your re-set was coming when I read the post requesting info on a setting for oval....when I went to DCD website , I thought of you...now to hear this!!??? I am Soooooooooooooooo sorry.!!

Oh no, FireGoddess! I''ve been wondering what was going on with your ring!

So basically, they have done NOTHING since you told them that the wax they made needed to be changed?

I don''t blame you for being furious. I would be too!

FG, I am sorry to hear about your ring. Thats a bummer.

Would you consider using Whiteflash? They reset MaryAliana''s ring (she has a pear with a halo also)
and she''s pretty happy with it.

cflutist, I think when I''ve fully recovered, I may email Lesley at WF, though it may take me several months to recover.

Well here is a cyber hug, pear-to-pear.

Firegodess,
First BIG HUG, I am soooo sorry that is just not right. You did everything you could to ensure that this time the design would be to your specifications and it must have fallen on deaf ears. This just sucks. Maybe you should talk to Whiteflash, or DCD. I know how deflated you must feel right now. I hope you find the true design of your dreams. Hang in there!!

I am so very sorry for your problems with this situation!!

I can''t imagine sending my ring away, waiting that long, and not getting anything in return. You sound devastated, and I don''t blame you one bit! Take a long, hot bath and have have a pint of ice cream ( always helps me!!). Let us know what you decide on doing....

Hugs, and take care

We''re here for ya, FG -- big hugs.

Oh FG i''m so sorry. I was wondering what was going on with your ring. i would be very upset too. When do you get your diamond back? Glad to hear you emailed Lesley. Keep us posted on your progress.

Oh, Fire Goddess...I feel your pain! I am going through a jeweler nightmare myself today. I think sometimes when things get so far gone, you just have to step back away from it for a little bit or you will go nuts! But you''ve been without your diamond for a long time. And there is no excuse for the problems you''ve had with the jeweler. Starting over from scratch with someone else sounds like the best thing to me. Or have your diamond put back into the original setting (if it can be saved). I''ll be thinking of you, in any case!

Bless your hear that just isn''t right. Have you written a formal letter detiailing what happend to the owner? I would imagine that he/she would want to make it right. Do not spend a penny on having it put back into your old mount. *hug*

Thanks for your replies everybody...

Dave, some of the things you have brought up are also things I have also considered during the course of the job.

One of the design elements I wanted was ignored both in the first version of the ring and then in the subsequent wax. I asked whether the designer did not understand what I wanted, or whether there was a structural reason for the way it was done. I had seen similar rings that had the design I wanted, so it seemed structurally sound. My jeweler's in house bench person confirmed that what I wanted could easily be done. Other things, which would not work in the ring, were explained to me and I had to accept those. I have also caught both parties (my jeweler and the designer she uses) in bold faced "fibs". I did not reserve judgement against anyone prior to that, but gave both the benefit of the doubt thinking, "Maybe the jeweler is not explaining what I want correctly" and "Maybe the designer is ignoring the instructions." I had no proof of either, only an item that did not conform to my specifications. What iced the cake was finding out that both parties were 'jerking my chain' somewhat. I think that was the beginning of the end. I could have had more respect for everyone involved if I had been dealt with honestly. Either tell me "I can't make this ring" or "I made a mistake using x designer" or something other than telling me "I have an alternate plan"...and then not even following through on that.

It's quite disheartening because I have dealt with this jeweler for 2 years and really do like them...but this job was the biggest by orders of magnitude over the previous jobs...and it has failed miserably.

FireGoddess, I am so so sorry.

I could slap that jeweler!

There is no excuse for any of this nonsense, especially the lying. Who runs a business this way? I can imagine how you must feel....I know I would be lost without my ering! Thank goodness your gorgeous pear in en route back to you...I am sure it will eventually find its proper home in a gorgeous setting...Asking WF is a good suggestion. They do nice, thorough, detailed work such as what you seek.

My diamond thoughts are with you!

I am so sorry FireGoddess! What a let down! To wait all that time and not have your ring and the whole time the exciting anticipation of getting a new ring and then nothing....And a stressful nothing at that...

If there was any doubt that design was difficult or whatever, they should have kept you informed. That way you wouldn''t be upset and feel that they are incompetent and you wouldn''t have gotten your hopes up. I''m sorry.......

Oh my dog. THat sucks! I just hope getting it backand your money back is a lot easier than this hell. At least you know not to deal with them again.

God that sucks!

I''m so sorry FG. No one should be treated like this. Especially when you have paid them a lot of money! and they have your stone!

Oh FG- sorry this happened to you.
I hope you are able to get your dream ring made by someone who will take care of you.
Take a step back, breath and decide what route you want to take.

oh fire, i just logged on after being out for a few days and saw this. i was wondering how things were going. i am so sorry things came to this. i feel for you. i think maybe you should look at it as a meant to be situation, because now you get to use a reputable custom jeweler, who ever you decide on, i am sure you will end up with your dream ring soon besyt of luck, when do you get your stone back?

I am still waiting to hear about my ring, beginning to get frustrated. I called last Tuesday and they said it was done, and then called me and said they were wrong, it wasn''t done and should be done on Thursday and to wait for them to call. Well it is Monday morning........

FG- what''s up with your ring/?????
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I have the stone back. I had them read off the girdle inscription to me (The salesgirl was like, "Do you have the number memorized???" I was like, "More or less, yes. I''ll recognize it when I hear it.") So she read it to me and it was right. I also asked to see it. It was the first time I''ve ever read a girdle inscription...SO FREAKING COOL!!!!!!! It was a 20X loupe and I had no trouble at all reading it. At first I could see the inscription but couldn''t really read it, and then, all the numbers and letters were there clear as day. It was a really neat experience. I was quite shocked to see that the inscription was still black, considering I was ultrasonic cleaning my rings about twice a week for many months. Way cool.
The saga still continues because basically, my jeweler is bending over backwards to make everything right. And I think they don''t want to lose my business, since I''ve been a very regular customer. They told me they didn''t get a quote from the local designer (whom I feared would charge more) because I already negotiated and paid for the ring, so the price is what it is. They also told me he''s already been working on my wax and would have a version at the end of this week. Notice how everything''s moving much faster now? It could be all talk, but since I''ve already issued an ultimatum, they know I''m willing to walk. This local guy does amazing work, so I''m willing to entertain this final option for a brief while. And I do mean brief. If this works...the ring will be absolutely amazing. I haven''t seen a pear set like it yet, so I''m willing to entertain a single wax. I hope this isn''t a case of "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice..."

Firegodess,
I hope it all works out for you, sounds like they are definetly trying, will keep my fingers crossed!!

Fire my fingures are cossed for you. I really hope this is one of those " things happen for a reason/ all good things come to those who wait" situations!! I have decided this AM that I love my ring. The little things that are "wrong" with it are SO minor. Someone hand made this and I have to appreciate that! And after looking at my friends custom ring.......I AM being too picky! She helped me in realizing that this ring was made just for me and has little imperfections, but it is beautiful and unique. No one will have this exact ring! Best of luck with your ring, you deserve a beautiful ring after all this run around.
