Question for you ladies. My BF recently told me he was planning on getting married this fall (I''m thinking more like winter). He hasn''t "popped the question" officially but he told me to go ahead and start planning (not much fun w/out the engagement). I have tried to give him ideas by showing him rings in magazines. He''s a guy''s guy and I have a feeling he may hit one of the mall stores and try to get in and out as quickly as possible.

After talking with several people, and especially after reading some of the entries in this forum, I''m seeing that mall stores are a big no no. How can I/should I suggest that he look on-line or maybe we can look together? The ring isn''t his favorite topic.

What do you think? He''s trying to keep the timing a surprise...

Help.

I think maybe you could hint about some people on here who have beautiful rings and where they got them- also how much CHEAPER it is using the online version, less shopping involved. If he''s anything like my BF, he''ll go for that. Also, say how much you''d like a certain ring, not a common one from the mall. Maybe he could get the hint. Or you could bring up something about the poor girls who had the nightmare Whitehall experience.. Something to show him he can get more and better for his money. I think that should appeal to ALL, right?

Ooh Amber has some good ideas! I think you should definitely emphasize the cheaper and better quality angles, so that he will let you start off a ring discussion - just present it as a warning, based on some nightmare stories you''ve heard. Then once you have his attention you can show him a few actual settings (maybe even center stones?) that you like online to show him what a great deal he can get! Even if he''s trying to keep timing a surprise and THINKS he wants to surprise you with the ring, I bet he''ll secretly be relieved that you''re giving him some guidance...since he would probably rather you do the research than him! Good luck!!!

Be careful that you are not discouraging a plan 75% complete. Otherwise, invite him to PS!
