Hello all,

Been lurking around for a little while now. Originally when I found pricescope, I initially wanted to refuse to listen to a 'forum' about diamond advice, but soon learned the error of my ways....

Anyways this was a proposal a long time in the works. The initial idea was to get the cast of the Phantom of the Opera in on it, unfortunately because of stupid unions, they weren't able to help in any fashion, and I found this less than a month beforehand, so I had to work quickly to come up with the actual proposal moment. Very long, sorry!

And some more important backstory information. First, since we started dating about a year and a half ago. we really haven't spent more than like a day apart, and like once, maybe twice, a few days at a time. So that was the fuel for the idea, as she has always loved that about us. Second, we met on craigslist. Third, since even like our third date, things NEVER work out the way we plan it to. Something always comes up and ruins plans, for example, our first Valentine's Day, I had a big plan, and it got ruined courtesy of one of the worst snowstorms Pittsburgh has had in a while.

So on April 9th-13th she was scheduled to be going to a conference in Long Beach, CA with her school friends (we live in Pittsburgh). I had offered to drive her to the airport after my night job (I work 2 jobs), and pick her up as well. And this is where my plan kicked into gear.
On April 8th, while she was sleeping, I crammed some clothes into my laptop bag, as well as my laptop, and some basic stuff. On April 9th, I left my night job, picked up her and her friends, and drove them to the airport. Playing off the fact that I had my laptop bag, because I would just be going to my morning job early the next day. Obviously, I had other plans :). I had found a plane that would leave after hers, but still arrive in LAX before hers did.

Immediately after dropping her off, I parked the car at the airport. Being careful to stay a few minutes behind her, both by common sense, and by texting her one friend, who excused it as she was texting her boyfriend. My flight was scheduled to leave a little after 30 minutes after hers did, so I couldn't cut it too close. All the mean while, texting my girlfriend and telling her I was at work, etc etc.

Fast forward to me landing. I run over to where her terminal will let her out. And I wait there till she leaves (being us, she of course texts as soon as she lands letting me know she got there safely). It actually takes her a second to see me, and is, as expected, completely confused. I had already coordinated with her friends to grab her checked bags, so they grab them, and I 'whisk' her away to the terminal where our next flight is at. I don't tell her a thing, other than that she should follow me, and I have somewhere to take her.
Meanwhile, at this point, we have less than about 30-35 minutes to catch the next flight, and I know this. Being in LAX, this gives ZERO time, and in all reality, we should have missed the flight. After running along, and with me explaining, eventually, that we were catching a plane to San Francisco, for undisclosed reasons, we get to the gate. They were actually specifically waiting for us, luckily, and we ever so barely get on the flight.

After sitting down, she actually puts two and two together and realizes why I'd be surprising her in California (I had told her all along, I wanted the proposal to be a complete surprise). We talk about pretty much anything and everything, nothing too 'lovey-dovey' yet, because I wanted to wait till we actually got to where we were going. Once we hit San Francisco, I had a limousine waiting there for us, to which we took that to the headquarters of Craigslist (to me I wanted it to be an embodiment of the start our life together :) after how we met).
The fun part about this, is since it was essentially a 'winged' thing, I really had no idea what to expect. All I had was an address (that was actually INCREDIBLY hard to find), and no more information. I had attempted to coordinate/contact the headquarters of craigslist, but couldn't get anywhere. All I knew is that it wasn't a big building.

We get there, not quite in the area that I expect. I told her to initially close her eyes, explaining our life together, how we met/everything started, etc etc. Eventually returning back to where we started, where I had her look up at the building, where it was only labeled 'craigslist.org', explained it was the headquarters, etc etc. Took her back into the limo, and proposed there in front of the building. And of course she said YES! :), making me extremely happy. Originally I had wanted to propose outside, but it was way too 'lively', and would have in the end just have been awkward.

So we then take said limo, BACK to the airport, to where I have the next leg of the flight to Vegas planned out, leaving EVERYTHING possible as a surprise, not telling her anything).

We fly to Vegas, to which there is another limo there to take us to our hotel (the Pallazo, the Venetian's twin), where I have the best room/suite I could afford reserved :). Awesome view, awesome room, definitely! Immediately after checking in and throwing a few belongings in the room, I move her along to the Venetian theatre, where Phantom of the Opera is playing. She desperately has been wanting to see it, and hasn't been able to yet, so I had got tickets there for the best seats possible, imo :). After the show, I had restaurant reservations for Emeril's steakhouse there, Delmonico. Not too impressive, sadly, looking back on it, I would have changed that aspect, but oh well. After that, the night was over.

We then caught a plane the next day back to LAX, where I told her I would be staying the length of the conference in Long Beach, and I'd be available to spend any time that she wanted to with me. I had reserved a nice car, and had booked a nice hotel (Hilton), so whatever she wanted to do :). In the end, because of the extremely tight living arrangements made by her school, she ended up sleeping over most of the nights, and we were able to spend a large portion of time together

That was the story and here's the ring. There will be 'real' shots to follow, but this should hold you over :). Made by Maytal!! And it's an original RCDC radiant, platinum with rose gold. We both love it.

Oh and on a side note, I know that myself I'd be thrown off by the money 'thrown around', but I would just like to note, I in no way am 'blessed with money', I've been working literally 85 hours a week for a while now. This was in order that I could afford all of this, I wanted everything, the story and the ring, so please don't toss this to the side thinking I'm just rich :), cause I would do the same haha. Thanks for listening :)

Wow. That''s all I''ve got.

Great story... and lovely ring...

What are the specs of the ring.....

I love the white and rose gold combo.... very very stunning

Thanks for the comments so far :).

It''s a rectangular F/VVS2 (debate-ably VVS1). Just in case the fiancee happens to check this site, I''m not giving the carat size yet, I don''t want her to know yet how much it actually cost :). But I will be attaching hand shots shortly, and everyone is able to make their guesses!

And Maytal sucked me into platinum actually, although I think it does in the end look the same as white gold would have, I do have to say I like the heft to it.

Wow, Freakazoid, that is a wonderful proposal story. The fact that you worked so hard to make it happen made the story even more special. Knowing how much planning and thought went into it--just, wow.

Beautiful ring, btw. When I got to the end of your story, I''d completely forgotten about the ring. I can''t wait to see hand shots. Congratulations!

Gorgeous ring!! Loooove the rose gold/platinum combo! Super stylish and very fancy!

congrats on a great proposal and gorgeous ring! must have taken u forever to plan all that out

our numbers do seem to be increasing. And yup it took me quite a while to plan and lay it all out.

Thanks for all the compliments so far guys!

One thing to note too. Forgot to mention, I used the ''euricase'' case. The case with the LCD screen in it. I know in the one thread it was brought up in pricescope it was ripped into as being silly, but I thought it was a good idea, and actually got some good reactions out of it. I didn''t use it during the actual proposal, but I did load it up will all of the pictures that exist of the two of us together. And I''m going to load the proposal pictures, and a video/music as well in the end.

A little silly to use AS your proposal, but a good longterm prop/addition I think :).

Wow, great story! Sounds like a lot of planning was involved. Congratulations on your engagement

You know, it says a lot about a guy that works his tail off and then "wants" to spend it on a beautiful piece of jewelry for a very lucky someone.

Thanks again everyone so far! hand shots once I can steal her camera :) They look MUCH better in the California light!

And sorry to disappoint, no brothers, actually have 2 sisters which is probably why I at least have some inkling of romanticism in my head haha.

Congratulations! It looks as if your sincerity and hard work paid off and please do post more pics when you get a chance

WOW! What a sweetie you are. She sure is a lucky girl to have such a thoughtful fiance. Congratulations on your engagement!!

OMG that is up there with the sweetest most romantic proposal stories I have ever heard, AWWWWW how beautiful, your now FI will cherish that forever not to mention the beautiful ring you had designed.

Just perfect :) congratulations

While I'm waiting to steal the camera from her for a few minutes, figured I'd post and see if anyone else has had a similar situation...

Her cousin/essentially at one point her best friend had the one reaction that completely threw her off. While most people gushed about the ring, proposal, etc. Her cousin reacted with some not favorable reactions (i.e. i've decided jealousy), here's some of the quips

'oh... is that a CZ?', (honestly asking).
'that's.....different', (not followed up with anything else commenting on how it looks etc)
'it's about the same size as mine...' (comparing to her crappy I1 1 ct storebought princess with a nasty inclusion in it)
'I like mine better, it sparkles more' (my butt.... lol, her stones lifeless, I gotta get some good shots uploaded).
'I thought they were supposed to be pink diamonds?' (uhhh whatdya think they are?)

So consumed with jealousy, completely unable to give an actual compliment or anything even remotely positive... I wanted to strangle her myself.

ladies... other than stressing to my fiance that her cousin's just jealous, any other tips?

(handshots coming soon!)

Sounds like the cousin is just jealous and tactless

congratulations!
What a beautiful ring and sweet story!!!1

Congrats, beautiful story!

A+++ for effort Freakazoid! What a guy! The ring is gorgeous! And don''t sweat the nasty cousin(s). I know it can be hurtful to hear those nasty comments. You are correct in assuming that it is jealousy. My guess is that none of their BFs went to those lengths to propose.

That''s what i''ve been trying to explain to her so far. Her cousin''s ring was some cheap one that was found ''on sale'', and the way she was proposed was he took her out to eat, then to ice skating and proposed while ice skating. She had commented before that she had wanted something more for the proposal.

I had a few more ideas myself but this one rose to the surface, this was less on the romantic side and more towards the ''us'' side :)

LOL, I''m jealous too Freakazoid, but I''m also happy for you! I totally appreciate the lengths you went to for both the proposal and the ring! It really irks me when people can''t be happy for others. Now do you have any handshots???

ETA: I meant to say "her" hand, not "your" hand in my post earlier. I''m so bad
