Hi everyone :(

So sunday routine, I clean my jewelry especially my 5 stone diamond ring, so as i was cleaning it and the light hit one of the diamond and i saw a crack diagonally across the table of one of the stones. I cant feel it and it dosnt catch when i pass my finger over it
when I saw it I Freaked out! and showed my Dad who was in the other room, It was hard to locate at first in a different light condition but i found it. I have no idea how this could have happened, I haven't dropped it, I don't recall hitting my ring or banging it against something. I don't wear it everyday and i certainly don't wear it doing cleaning, household chores etc.

How could this have happened :( This was my very first diamond purchase and I did alot of research!

The stones are 0.25 pointers each. VS1/2 clarity.

whats the best way to go about this, just get it replaced?

Yep, just replace it. You probably hit it on something :(

Sorry

:(

Could it be girdle reflection and not a crack?

I'm so sorry to hear about this Zah Zah!! What type of warranty policy came with the ring? I would try and contact the company you purchased your ring from to see what they can do for you.

I have two years warranty and I have only had the ring for 2 months :(

Its also insured, I didn't expect to have to claim, especially not this soon.

I was looking through pricescope and thought that this could be a possibility but I dont see anything similar to this on any of the other stones :(

There's you answer. :))

When you look at the crack does it break the surface of your diamond?

No. I also cant see the crack looking directly from the top, only when i tilt the stone at an angle and the light hits its at the correct position.

Girdle reflections are only visible in a side view.
They are down in the pavilion and run parallel to the table.

If you see something in a top view it is not a girdle reflection.

Sorry.

I'm sorry, too! I'd replace it but would not make such a small claim on insurance. Because multiple claims can be problematic, and I'd far rather use insurance when there is a greater loss, such as a ring being lost or stolen. You may eventually pay for this in increased premiums, so I'd just pay for the replacement stone, personally.

Sorry, I thought you meant you were looking from the side of the diamond. I would go back to your jeweller and ask them to have a look.

I tried to take pictures unfortunaly can't capture the crack.

I'm going to speak to the jeweller, and il see how much it costs to replace. I might just do it out of pocket if it's not too much. Sigh :( how could this have happened!

Could it have been like that the whole time and you didn't notice till now?

It's a possibility but I have no way to prove it and don't want to blame the jeweller if it was indeed my own fault.

But I'm also nervous as I'm working with the same jeweller for another item, if it was the jewellers fault eeeek I feel uneasy.

I'm really upset about it, it's like the more I try to be careful with something, something ends up happening!

Definitely speak with your jeweler and ask to see the ring under a microscope so that you can see better what this is.

Also, take not of his reaction to your request. If he is considerate and helpful then you can lose the nervousness about dealing with him in the future. If he is nervous and evasive, then that is another story entirely.

It is totally unfair to both yourself and to him to be nervous about him until you have seen how he handles your concerns. The jeweler may well earn your total respect and confidence, or your complete lack of trust, but we can not even guess at which it will be until you have spoken with the jeweler.

I got it checked out by a jeweller after work (not the one I got it from) but one recommended from a work collegue. He checked it out and said it wasn't a crack it was a feather and it's probably been there since I got it and I only just noticed it.

I'm still a bit concerned the diamonds in the five stone ring are vs1/2 clarity so a feather really shouldn't be visa me to the eye espeicially in a 0.25 carat diamond!

So I contacted the jeweller who I got it from and he said he would be happy to take a look at it and I just have to send it off to him.
He was very nice not defensive at all, he said he checked all te diamonds before they were set and they had independant Aprasial don't after set and this wasn't noticed.

Feathers can be hard to see at times. It does not mean that they should not have been seen prior to mounting, but mistakes can happen.

I am glad to hear that he seems totally willing to make it right without hassle. This is a good thing and he is obviously working to retain your trust and confidence.

I'm glad you've gotten to the bottom of the issue. I'm sure the vendor will take care of it for you :))

Great! I'm so glad to hear you're getting this resolved. :twirl:

Thanks everyone!

Im sending it out tomorrow! so hopefully by Wednesday we know what it is.

Id defo looks like a crack to me. I cant feel it and it dosnt compromise its sparkle, but if you look at at just the right angle, it can be seen, and i dont think its the way the stone is set or a reflection as non of the other stones have this.
