Thinking of selling my OEC

I’ve never done anything like this before, but I wanted to post on here and see if there’s any interest at all before I make a listing. I purchased the diamond from Love Affair Diamonds. It’s a 2.49 AGS L VS. It is set in a platinum solitaire from David Klass which I could keep it in or remove. I have the report with all the details. I’m not 100% sure I want to sell, but I’m tossing around the idea. I’m not sure exactly how to go about this, but figured I would just put some feelers out first.

I wish I had the means to snap this beauty up. I just wanted to say, your OEC is a stunner, @Honeybasil! ❤️❤️

Thank you! I really am wishing for a three stone ring which has turned out to be so difficult to do with an OEC and especially this size. But I’m still not sure...

I heard 3-stone and oec and my ears starting burning. Do it! It’ll be amazing! I mean trying to find matching stones is gonna be the worst thing you’ll ever do in your life but it'll be worth it! I think.... I’ll let you know if I ever find my last side. But, omg do it!

I think it would look good. I think if you did more delicate sides such as maybe a half carat each, or somewhere thereabouts it would not be overpowering. I think that it's getting harder and harder to find nicely cut old stones that are actually legitimately old so I always am of the mindset that if you are on the fence try to rework it!

Ok, I’m so very partial to three stone rings...there‘s quite a few PSers who own OEC/OMC three stone beauties, two of which already replied above.
I concur with @Spring Day and @elizat in saying that your OEC will make for a stunning center for a three stone. Go for it, @Honeybasil!!

It’s just so hard to find matching side stones. And I don’t know if I have the budget to do a three stone in this size. I would love to do it, so maybe I’ll keep this and hope to be able to do it in the future!

What size side stones were you thinking of?

Hi @Honeybasil such a pretty stone! What size sides do you want?

I’m thinking of around 6 mm - I like a larger side stone look. I thought if I could sell my stone, I could use the money to get a smaller scale three stone ring - and maybe RBC so it would be easier to find matching stones.

It’s hard but not impossible. My pendant that just sold would have been a good match for your center so they’re out there. Just need to have patience... says the lady with no patience...

I say keep the stone and work on finding sides. Really is getting harder to find nice old cuts. I think if you sent your stone pics and/or your stone to Adam at Old World Diamonds or Sako of Cicada, they could find you a match. Sourcing on your own would be cheaper, but as @Spring Day notes, it will take some time. It will take some time for a vendor too, but it's probably not as big of an ask as you think. I think you may be pleasantly surprised that it's not out of the realm of reason.

You can buy the MRB any day of the week. I am so biased to old cuts, but really, legit, you can buy that MRB any day of the week and match stones fairly easily. If you like your stone and how it performs, i wouldn't let it go so easily.

I’m with everyone else @Honeybasil you have beauty of an OEC. Not an easy find nowadays. By my calculation, to need (2) stones @ .80 carats each. I was just looking through xothebijoux’s insta and found this image. Omg this would be so gorgeous!

Alex Park made a gorgeous 3 stone OEC ring for a customer in Australia. The first link is the center OEC that he offered at an amazing price, and then the second link is the finished ring after a couple of weeks. I assume he helped source the side stones after she (or he!) let him know what they wanted. I have never personally worked with him but when I was inquiring about OECs, I did reach out to him and he was fine to DM with on Instagram. I believe the general view from PS is that he has amazing prices and a straightforward communication style, so definitely worth a shot if you want a great deal.

+1

Not to belabor the point about keeping the stone but a vendor told me that it’s also getting harder and harder to source stones in smaller carat size when I was inquiring about 2 ct OECs. And yours Is actually the ideal size center for a fabulous three stone, @Honeybasil!
The pic @lulu_ma posted is a perfect example of what you can do with yours❤️

Beautiful beautiful stone. And WHY is it getting so hard to find them now? Everyone is saying this including vendors! Dolly of xo was saying how hard they are to find and how the costs have gone up. It definitely makes me sad because I am a recent discoverer of old cuts. I say keep that gorgeous stone.

@Honeybasil what about these? They are an I but look to be uncerted so may the color will be close enough? just shy of 6mm each.

Those very different table sizes and faceting would bother me as matching side stones.

Maybe because lots of people are buying them now like us - and maybe most have been recut into modern cuts :(

I have reached out to them and Adam hasn’t had anything. Sako had some but they were a little expensive for me. My hubby just gave me a 5 stone ring so I really don’t have much budget for anything at this time. Maybe I can just hold off for a while and try again later.

Thanks for all of the suggestions ladies!!

Hi, @Honeybasil. If you do end up wanting to list your OEC, I'm definitely interested!

What did you decide? I’m looking as well....

Kind of quit thinking about it. Got busy with life and put it out of my mind. I’ll let you know...

Any interest in this still? I’m pretty sure I’m going to list it but I’ve never done this before! Not sure whether to list it in the solitaire setting by David Klass or to unset it? I’m out of town taking my daughter to college but going to work on a listing when I get home.

I would love to know the specs and pricing thanks!

Thank you so much for thinking of me @Honeybasil. I'm no longer in the market for an OEC. Dust for a quick sale though!

P.S. In terms of selling your OEC with or without the DK setting, would you repurpose the semi-mount for another project? If not, my preference would be to sell the whole ring as is.
