Do places where you register give your guests discounts for me registering with them? (I KNOW Tiffany''s won''t -- Trump can''t even negotiate with them....) But, I was thinking of registering for other stuff like silver, crystal, etc. at a local household goods store. I figure it wouldn''t hurt to ask, but, has anyone heard of this happening before?

Thanks!

No.. I don''t think they do. I have heard of places giving YOU discounts after your wedding on the itens that you register for, but didn''t get.. but I''ve never heard of places giving gift givers discounts off of registry items.

May Department Stores (Hecht''s, Strawbridge''s, Fileene''s, Kaufmann''s, etc) dont have a discount they give guests, but if the item is on sale when you put it on your registry, they keep the sales price. Example: our china retails $130, but it was on sale for $89 when we registered. As long as you showed the cashier the registry, you got the sales price even though it technically wasnt on sale anymore.

Other stores may have something similar, but i dont know who they would be.

Neither of the places I registered at offers special discounts to the guests. One of them, Macy's, does offer a 5% rebate on gifts purchased off my registry (not sure if this applies to gifts that aren't pre-registered) and 10% if I buy something off it for myself.

ETA: Just to clarify, the 5-10% rebate will be given to me. I guess the money will accumulate as gifts are purchased up to 3 months after the wedding date. Then I get a store credit for whatever the final total comes to. This is aside from their completion program which every store seems to have.

Most places (all that i know of) don''t give your guests a discount but a lot of them have a completion program so that after the wedding you can buy stuff off your registry at a discount.
