This separation really makes me sad...

"The Insider"''s MARC MALKIN reports that double Oscar winner HILARY SWANK and her husband CHAD LOWE have decided to split.

Swank''s manager, TROY NANKIN, tells Malkin that "Hilary and Chad have decided to separate but they are hopeful they will be able to get through this tough time."

It was this time last year when Hilary was accepting the Oscar for Best Actress (''Million Dollar Baby'') and thanking Lowe, "last, but not least," for the support -- after her glaring omission when she won the Oscar in 2000 for ''Boys Don''t Cry'' and forgot to acknowledge her then-hubby.

The couple married in September of 1997 and have no children together.

I can''t say I didn''t see this one coming. Ever since she won her first Oscar, my hubby and I were wondering how Chad must feel, to have such a successful actress as a wife, and just be an "adornment" on her arm on the red carpet. He doesn''t seem to have anything noticeable on his credits, and she has TWO OSCARS! It must have been a male pride/ego thing that led to the demise of their marriage.

It''s funny, because they did seem so happy, for so many years, and then they just split! It seems like the dip into the public life is what might have done them in. I hate seeing things like this, it reminds you of how common divorce is. Well, more amongst celebrities, but still. No matter, I have faith in my relationship. And, I''m a nobody!

I agree. As sad as some of the splits are it seems like the ''IN'' thing now. If only Britney Spears would join the ''split club''. That is one seperation that wouldn''t make me sad at all.

I always said Britney ''bought'' herself a husband(I don''t know what swap meet she found him at) but she needs to check their ''return policy''.

I totally agree, I thought the same thing. Remember when she was on Beverly Hills 90210 and now she''s won 2 Oscars. Chad Lowe has just been doing part in Law & Order. Although, I don''t think one spouse being more successful should be a problem, it seems to be the root of all problems in Hollywood.
